Iraq Wins!

Iraq beats three-time champion Saudi Arabia in the Asian Cup final -- a remarkable accomplishment for a country in shambles. Since the tournament's launch in 1956, Iraq had finished fourth (in 1976) but had previously never been to the championship match. More match details here.

More than half the field for the 2009 Confederations Cup is now set:

USA (Gold Cup)
Brazil (Copa America)
Iraq (Asian Cup)
Italy (World Cup)
South Africa (host)
Euro '08 champion
African Cup of Nations '08 champion
Oceania Nations Cup champion '07-08
