MLS All-Stars and More
Here's your MLS First XI to face Celtic July 19 at the All-Star Game in Denver:
Goalkeeper: Matt Reis.
Defenders: Jimmy Conrad, Jonathan Bornstein, Michael Parkhurst.
Midfielders: Ricardo Clark, Shalrie Joseph, Juan Toja, Christian Gomez, Dwayne De Rosario.
Forwards: Eddie Johnson, Juan Pablo Angel.
Votes were cast by four groups -- fans, coaches/GMs, media and players -- and applied equally. This "11" is not necessarily the starters for the match. Player availability, injuries and strategic decisions will impact the lineup.
Seven additional players will be added next Tuesday by New England boss Steve Nicol, who had the best record at the deadline a couple weeks ago, and The Commish, Don Garber.
What else am I hearing?
*A source familiar with the Revs' situation tells me that the club is aggressively pursuing Latin American talent and is hoping to have a deal done by the end of the month. No word on position or nationality, but some of the players under consideration are/were at Copa America. The Revs have plenty of cash to throw around after banking money received for the loss of Clint Dempsey and for waiving Daniel Hernandez ($155,000).
*ESPN is going all gaga over Beckham. Big surprise. Today the Empire announced that, during its live coverage of the Galaxy-Chelsea friendly on July 21 at Home Depot Center, the network will have:
-- "Beckham Cam," a player-isolation camera focusing on wonderboy's every move throughout the match.
-- "Celebrity Cam," a wireless device to identify celebrity fans and get reaction to wonderboy's play.
-- Saints star Reggie Bush in the booth to shamelessly sell adidas shoes through his "Futbol vs. Football" campaign with Beckham.
But wait, there's more -- oh, there's more! (Sorry, I'm done. If you really want to know how they're going to overexpose Posh and Becks, you're on your own.)
More news later.....
