'Barnum & Beckham'
Greetings from Estadio RFK. Beckham and the Galaxy will arrive soon for a press conference and light training. Meantime, a few choice DCU quotes to share with you:
An anonymous DCUer, upon seeing the unusual number of TV cameras and reporters at practice this morning: "Welcome to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Beckham Circus."
Moreno, on his back injury: "It's a lot better. Definitely I am not 100 percent. I would like to start but I don't think that is going to be the case."
Gomez did not train today and still has swelling and pain in his quadriceps, according to a team official. Said Soehn: "Jaime has probably made more progress than Christian. Christian will be a game-time decision."
Soehn, on Beckham's status: "The one thing you can say about him is that he wants to come in and perform to the best of his abilities. For him to come out on the field at 50 percent, it's just not worth it. It's not good for the fans, it's not good for himself and it's not good for his team. ... There is a lot of pressure on him to play, but ultimately he is smart enough, he's been in it long enough, if he doesn't play, it's for a reason."
Moreno, on playing in a big game: "I think the big game will be in November, that will be the biggest thing for us. Tomorrow is going to be a nice crowd -- we all know why -- but for us we're just going to come here and do our business. It's going to be a lot of distraction, but for us the big game is going to be the final."
Moreno, on what it is like to come back from injury: "It's a nightmare because when you try to heal quick, there is always something else. At this stage, you don't have patience because you want to get out as quick as possible. I'm sure he's a guy who knows what is best for the team -- that is why he is waiting."
Moreno, joking: "All the ladies, they are in love with him. I don't know what they can see in him."
Moreno, asked whether he can bend it like Beckham: "I don't think I can bend it like Beckham, but I think I can score some penalties."
Soehn, on Donovan's and L.A.'s success at RFK: "I think Landon gets excited to play here. The harder the fans make it on him, the more he enjoys playing. We've got to make it hard on him. We've got to take care of their strengths and prey on their weaknesses."
