DCU's New General Manager

Later today, United Technical Director Dave Kasper will be officially named the club's general manager. What does this mean exactly? Sort of a matter of semantics. The club's overall organizational structure will not change. Kevin Payne remains the president and CEO. Stephen Zack remains senior vice president, presiding over all business decisions. And Kasper will oversee all soccer decisions, as he has done since he was named technical director in 2002. This is apparently a way of rewarding a man whose decisions have led to five straight playoff appearances, and is on the verge of claiming a second consecutive Supporters Shield and a second consecutive MVP award (from a different player).

He will be the first "general manager," in title, since Payne returned to the club full time after his brief stint with Anschutz Entertainment Group.

More on this later; feel free to include your thoughts on the Kasper record, and the promotion.

Congrats DK. Congrats all around for putting attractive exciting football out on the pitch for the last 5 years. Good Job.

Now, Can I be named president of Calendars?

Congratulations to Mr. Kasper. In other news, sitruc is being named lifelong fan replacing the title of fan for life even though United was not around when sitruc was born. It is mostly semantics, but it gives the relatively young team the appearance of being around for longer than the rest of the MLS teams. There have been other lifelong fans, but sitruc will be the first not born after the beginning of the team.

Well done to our friendly, if not ghostly, new GM.

Steve/Dan, another great story is Steven Zack. He's been with United since Day 1, and it seems that KP thinks highly of him. How about a feature on Mr. Zack?

Hey Sitruc: I was in the room with Agoos & Co. watched Payne and Arena compile the first DC United team. Does that make me Lifelong Fan.1?

Wish I'd known so I could have said something to him at the Meet the Team even last night...

Who am I kidding. I was too star-struck to do more than mumble and proffer my pen and DC flag for an autograph.

I did get Matt Mathai's signature, though. ;-)

Congratulations, Mr. Kaspar.

Who can argue with results like these? Kevin Payne and Kasper are clearly the best execs in the league. Very glad to see Mr. Kasper rewarded for his efforts. Hopefully this team will be in place for many years to come.

DC United has been a shining example for MLS since the creation of the league. It's appropriate that the organization recognize the back room staff that contributed so much to the team's success. Congratulations to Dave Kasper.

Now, is there anything he can do about a certain SSS down at Poplar Point? (zzzzzzzzz!)

Joe Doc, as you know, DCU likes to reward people who have been around for long periods of time. With my new title, I can provide promotions and new titles. You will receive considerations.

LOL! If we lose another game everyone will be crying that we don't have (fill in the blank) and that we're going nowhere and that the FO has failed. Yeesh.
