Real World: Fort Washington Update

The hair that was. (By Jonathan Newton - TWP)

Toward the beginning of the season, I mentioned how D.C. United rookies Bryan Arguez, Kasali Yinka Casal, Shawn Crowe, Guy-Roland Kpene and Kiki Willis were sharing a house out in Fort Washington. Kasali and Kiki, of course, are no longer with the club; one of the spots in the house has been filled by rookie Mira Mupier.

Now it turns out that the still vacant fifth bedroom could possibly be filled by newly arrived rookie Jerson Monteiro. The open room is the basement, which Arguez vacated when Kasali left. It's a nice, big room, but Arguez took off once he saw spiders. The spiders?

"You're not scared of spiders?" Arguez asked me. "I'm scared of spiders."

Anyhow, the current state of the house is fine, except Mupier and Crowe occasionally argue over the group's white Honda Odyssey mini-van, which they use to ride to practice, and which Mupier and Crowe both like to use in their spare time.

"Always fighting," Kpene said. "They never get into a fistfight, though," Arguez reassured me. "Me and Guy usually just laugh in the background."

When I first wrote about the group house, there wasn't much furniture; now, though, there are furnishings.

"We've got everything now, everything you can imagine," Kpene told me, "TV, couch, PlayStation, everything."

They use the PlayStation for FIFA '07 tournaments. Arguez is Barcelona, Kpene is Chelsea, Crowe is Arsenal and Mupier is AC Milan. The results are mixed. The house has gone rather smoothly, except one time when Kpene and Arguez were supposed to pay the electricity but instead they went to see Kpene's old school, Dowling, crush UDC, and while they were gone the electricity was briefly turned off.

Also, Crowe, who drives the group to practice, is very very big on promptness.

"He likes to leave real early," Arguez said. "Some people like to be on-time; he likes to leave earlier than on-time. It cuts down on our sleep."

I'm not sure what's going into Monteiro's decision, but I sort of hope it works out.

"We have a room," Kpene told me. "If he wants to come, he's welcome."

(If you've been wondering why Kpene cut off his Didier Drogba-inspired hairdo a few weeks back, he said it was due to superstition.

"Too many problems, man, it wasn't going my way," Kpene said. "So I decided to change. It's getting better."

As for his now-plain hair, "I'm going with something else," he promised. "I'm not saying, but in a couple weeks, you'll see.")

Did someone eat Bob Dole's peanut butter, or sit in Bob Dole's chair? My money is on Arguez.

FIFA '07 tourneys? They'd all be first team starters if they were playing Winning Eleven instead.

I'm glad Kpene got rid of that hair...he looked like Ms. Jay Alexander from America's Next Top Model (I know, I know...my wife watches it, and I get stuck watching clips of it)....google him and have a laugh for yourself

This is cool. I live in Ft. Wash. I wonder where in Ft. Wash they are? I would love to train with them on their off days.
