I have important news to share.
Well, yes, Shanghai is one of the world's great cities and should not be missed during a trip to Asia, but that's not it.
Indeed, the U.S. team is concerned about another sluggish start in its Group B finale Tuesday evening against Nigeria and sees the African champions' speed and athletic ability as a significant challenge. But you probably already knew that.
Yup, defender Stephanie Lopez has an interesting story to tell and defender Tina Ellertson has strong ties to Nigeria (her mom is Nigerian), something you can read about in The Post and on our Web site on Tuesday morning.
But here's what you really need to know:
Scott Powell, one of the U.S. team doctors here in China, was a founding member of the doo wop group Sha Na Na. I am na na kidding. He played at Woodstock (right before Hendrix came on). He was on the group's TV show in the late 1970s. His acting career took him to the set of Grease and Caddyshack (he played Gatsby, one of Rodney Dangerfield's cronies -- white tux on the left at Rodney's table in the clip below) before returning to Columbia for premed. He's now a specialist in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine in the L.A. area.
It should also be noted that USSF head of communications Jim Moorhouse made a guest appearance on the Star Trek TV series.
Now did you really think the Insider could pass up an opportunity to work Sha Na Na, Hendrix, Caddyshack and Trekkies into a soccer blog item? I think not.
