Latin American Updates
*Amid its coverage of Marcelo Gallardo's signing with D.C. United, La Nacion says that Ariel "Burrito" Ortega is the latest Argentine candidate to possibly join MLS. Ortega will turn 34 in March, had some success in Europe but is mostly known for his time with River Plate, three World Cups and 17 goals in 86 caps. He has also been treated for alcoholism several times.
*Midfielder Ramon Nu~nez, waived by Chivas USA after 3 1/2 years with Dallas, has returned to his birthplace, Honduras, to play for Olimpia. Only 22, he showed promise in his second and third seasons after leaving SMU early but grew increasingly disgruntled under Coach Steve Morrow and never had an impact with Chivas.
*Earlier this week I made mention of an unnamed MLS coach scouting players in Honduras. Thanks to Insider loyalist Evan, I can tell you that it is New England's Steve Nicol.
