Live From Training Camp

Marcelo Gallardo is here. So is Gonzalo Martinez, Gonzalo Peralta, Franco Niell, Jose Carvallo.....

We'll discuss the South American quintet later today. For now, let's talk about who is not here.

Not surprisingly, Christian Gomez, Gallardo's predecessor, is not here and the latest word I've received this morning is that Colorado is attempting to both reach a contract deal with the Argentine playmaker and finalize a trade with United for his rights. "I would be surprised if it does not happen," one source said. What would United get in return? Players seem unlikely, draft picks and allocation money more likely. Just my speculation.

Out-of-contract defender Greg Vanney is not here, and with the arrival of both Martinez and Peralta, he is clearly not in United's future plans. A few MLS teams have inquired about acquiring his rights. Don't be surprised to see a trade in the coming days or weeks.

Midfielder Stephen deRoux is not here. United did not exercise the option on his contract and he is exploring USL opportunities. However, he has a standing invitation to rejoin United at training camp and attempt to earn a roster spot.

As I told you earlier, both Fred and Luciano Emilio will not join the club until camp moves to Bradenton because of visa issues. Several of the draft picks will also meet up with the club at a later date. Goalkeeper Zach Wells is at U.S. camp for another week.

Justin Moose did accept United's offer to try to win a roster and former MLSer Josh Gardner is here on trial.

More later.....
