Monday Morning, Friday's Far Away
Pray you'll make it, it's a magic day
Thanks, Joe. Good morning, hipsters.
*I'm hearing that, in addition to Argentine second-division defender Gonzalo Peralta, D.C. United is focusing in on an Argentine forward. That's all I know at the moment: no name or club affiliation. On the Peralta front, there are rumblings among Almirante Brown suppporters that Peralta might stay with the club until June. Stay tuned.....
*First reported on, I believe, bigapplesoccer.com and confirmed here on the Insider last night, Chicago appears to have narrowed its coaching search to three candidates: Houston assistant John Spencer, Fire assistant Denis Hamlett and former Dallas coach and Duke assistant Mike Jeffries. My hunch is Spencer, who has major European playing experience (and connections) and seems prepared for a top job after helping guide Houston to the past two MLS championships.
*As first reported here last month, Dallas is, indeed, in talks with Mexican defender Duilio Davino, 31, who has 80 national team caps and spent the past 10 years with Club America. "I like the league and the club," he told the Dallas Morning News. "So there's interest on both sides. We'll talk [today] and see if we can reach a deal." FCD has also been searching in Germany for defensive help.
*According to Argentine reports, Gimnasia supporters are not optimistic that Guillermo Barros Schelotto will leave Columbus and return to their club, although the saga very much continues.
*Mexico's Said Godinez says he is about to sign with MLS, but won't say to which club he is headed (Chivas USA? Colorado?).
*Congrats to DCU defender Greg Vanney, whose wife Amy gave birth to twin boys, Mason and Dylan. They have a daughter, as well.
*Before I head off to DCU's invitation-only, pre-draft combine for regional players, enjoy this Cristiano Ronaldo video set to a tune from Fort Minor:
