Monday's Final Thoughts
*Marcelo Gallardo is, indeed, United's first designated player. DP=Big Bucks. Not sure how many of them bucks, however. Perhaps we'll learn more at the introductory news conference Tuesday.
*I neglected to mention in a previous post that Pat Carroll, younger brother of Brian and Jeff and a former West Virginia player, has been invited to training camp.
*Three of the six draft picks were in town -- Dan Stratford, Ryan Cordeiro and Tony Schmitz -- and the other three will join the club in the coming weeks. UCLA's Brandon Owens will probably be the last to arrive because of school commitments.
QUOTES OF THE DAY
When asked how he felt about playing alongside so many fellow Latin Americans, 12-year veteran Jaime Moreno deadpanned: "I don't know, I'm American now."
Asked how things will be different with so many Spanish-speaking players on the club, Ben Olsen said: "It has changed the team meetings -- they are a lot longer now. Tommy starts in and then you have to wait for the translation. With my ADD [attention deficit disorder], it kicks in. I've got to start learning Spanish or something."
