Morning Update

*As we told you late Sunday night, Wizards star Eddie Johnson is hoping to close a deal with Fulham and join compatriots Kasey Keller, Carlos Bocanegra, Clint Dempsey and Brian McBride at the struggling Premiership club.

*Speaking of McBride, he is close to returning from his horrific knee injury suffered in August.

*I am hearing that Omid Namazi, currently coaching an indoor team in New Jersey, will join the Red Bulls as an assistant coach under Juan Carlos Osorio, but still awaiting confirmation. As we have told you before, the club has also talked with Alfonso Mondelo. Chris Armas is out of the running, John Harkes was let go and Richie Williams appears set to remain with the team in some capacity.

*Ticket sales for the Feb. 6 friendly between the USA and Mexico in Houston have surpassed 37,000.

*Defender Julian Valentin has left under-23 camp in Bradenton after re-opening a wound on his face, originally suffered in the NCAA championship game last month.

*Crystal Palace USA, a second-year USL2 club based in Baltimore, will hold tryouts later this month and again next month. Last year four trialists made the final roster. For more information, click here.

*Good news: The Insider is now available on your mobile device at http://www.twp.com/item.jsp?key=sp.

*Finally, eligible candidates for induction into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame have been announced. Check the list here, read the rules and tell me who you would vote for.
