Weekend Update

*Reports in Latin America continue to say that Peruvian goalkeeper Jose Carvallo (Universitario) may be on his way to D.C. United.

"My departure still isn't 100 percent defined, but the negotiations are well advanced," Carvallo told the Peruvian newspaper Libero. "I hope to sign the deal in the next few days because I love the idea of saving Beckham's shots."

*Connecticut junior O'Brian White, a Canadian forward with Jamaican ties who led the nation with 23 goals, won the Hermann Trophy as the top player in men's college soccer. He plans to return for his senior year. First runner-up: Virginia Tech's Patrick Nyarko, who signed early with MLS and will be among the top five picks in Friday's draft. Third-place: Notre Dame's Joseph Lapira, a Louisiana native who has an Ireland cap and is likely to sign overseas. Florida State's Mami Yamaguchi of Japan won the women's award.

*Preki, 2007 MLS coach of the year, has been awarded with a new contract by Chivas USA.
