Awaiting the USA Roster

Four days until the USA-Mexico showdown and still no official roster. Maybe today.

After poking around a bit, I have heard that Pat Noonan, Ramiro Corrales, Michael Parkhurst and Ricardo Clark have been retained from the mostly MLS group that's been training together in L.A. for the past week. A few others will stick around and join the European-based players. I do not know the specifics, but Landon Donovan, Brad Guzan and Jimmy Conrad seem certain. Jeremiah White is headed back to Denmark. I've also heard that Stuart Holden has been called in from under-23 camp. No confirmation on any of this, just things I've heard. We also know that Taylor Twellman is out with a groin injury.

man, noonan and corrales where the worst on the field after taylor twellman. you know if he weren't hurt he'd get yet another chance to stink up the joint.

think altidore will get called in from the U23 camp also?

I was hoping to see more of White.

Convey took stitches to his shin. That's why he didn't dress.

Lots of Reading fans would prefer he take some time off. He's become a bit of a whipping boy at the HobNob message board.

Wow. Arguez already made his dabut. Thats impressive

Noonan wasn't that poor, Rolfe (granted in a short period of time) played far worse and contributed absolutely nothing except for a pathetic touch that cost us a potential goal. Moor was also pretty bad.

And Convey is a whipping boy for Reading fans, I always understood that he was a fan favorite after the key role he played in their promotion.

Goff, is there anything to the rumor that Dempsey isn't going to participate in the Mexico friendly?? Any idea if Adu is going to be called in??

Echoing 24060 -- "Finally, Stuart Holden." Maybe, I don't know as much as I think I do. I ws surprised at how little playing time Holden got from the Dynamo in the playoffs. I didn't see this team week in and week out, but Holden always seemed like a guy who made things happen on offense. I think he's a great addition to the national side.

Full roster will be announced later this afternoon.

Noonan played badly last game? What game were you watching? Noonan set up both goals and made a number of other excellent plays...He would have been a good choice for Man of the Match.

Keep in mind too, roster selections are also based on performance in training the past week.

I bet Arguez must be thrild. He didn't get playing time with United now he gets debut at first class league. He ie probably thinking look United you bummy. Do you see where I am and what I am doing? :)

Any word on whether Benfica will release Freddy for the match, or if he's even being called in?

Posted by: Brava Rookie | February 2, 2008 1:43 PM | Report abuse

Its a FIFA date, why wouldn't Benfica release him??

They lost, not so impressive.

Yeah, but they were down 2-0 already when Arguez came on -- so, not his fault, and being the first sub in is a great sign for his getting playing time there. Not a good team, but still the Bundesliga.

Stuart Holden is also a former professional video game player.

Bradley scored again today, in an impressive 7-0 victory for Heerenveen over Vitesse Arnhem, hopefully he features in the game against Mexico.

Looks like Cooper is the forgotten man of US soccer, chances are BB doesn't like him that much so he'll just go down as the all time leading scorer to minutes played in US national team history.

The roster is up - looks pretty strong

Noonan was the worst on the field vs. Sweden? He only contributed to both goals and does all the small things that nobody notices for the team. Guess he should of thrown in some neat tricks that do nothing for the team?
