He's Off to See the Wizards
He's close, anyway.
The word on this Friday night is that Kansas City is in the late stages of talks with Argentine forward Claudio Lopez about becoming the club's first designated player. A few days after telling you that the sides were in serious negotiations, we are being told by one source that a deal could be completed this weekend and announced in the following days. IF an agreement is reached, Lopez would essentially fill the menacing forward role vacated this winter when Eddie Johnson was sold to Fulham.
Let's review.....
Age: 33.
Clubs: Estudiantes, Racing, Valencia, Lazio, Club America, Racing (again).
International: More than 50 caps and 10 goals for Argentina; one start, two reserve appearances at the 2002 World Cup; four starts, one reserve appearance at the 1998 World Cup. 1996 Olympics, silver medal.
Potential opening weekend: Gallardo and D.C. vs. Lopez and K.C.
