Very nice passing on Valencia's goal.
Estonia was missing Linkavitch Chomofsky in the set-piece defense.

Cold? Please! I played soccer at 10 pm last week in the pouring rain and 40 degrees in Atlanta!

Just to note that yesterday's blog started with "Not much happening at the moment" followed by *three* more threads. Today's blog states "and will have plenty to share."
Fasten your seat belts, place your seatbacks in the upright position, and stow your carry-ons.

I guess the River guy deserved a red card, too, but he was being physically assualted, he has a right to defend himself.

That just encourages a greater lack of production in businesses around the DC area.

"Cold? Please! I played soccer at 10 pm last week in the pouring rain and 40 degrees in Atlanta!"
I'd much rather play in 40 degree rain than stand outside at 29 degrees with winds gusting to 23 mph. That's some serious dedication.

How come when you type "Soccer Insider" in the washingtonpost.com search box you don't get a direct link to the Soccer Insider blog? Furthermore, how come I get links to the Redskins Insider blog sometimes? Inquiring minds want to know.
Thx,
Jay!

Silence! As the shadow owner of the Washington Post we will ensure ALL searches will now lead to the Redskins blog.
I have dispatched a "special issues" blackbag team to guarantee your silence, er, cooperation in this matter.

The "methadone metronome" reference is to the song Television (the Drug of the Nation) by Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. A classic.

Is it me or the same team(s) players are always provicking a fight. IF you lookat that clip. The river player should get a yellow at the most. That reaction usually should warrant a red card, but that defender was holding him provicking him to get a red card. This is something that referees must stop, I see it all the time. Is someone going to have to get seriously hurt for them to understand. This is similar to the slide tackle that Sanchez tried on EJ. If that would have connected who know how eddie would have reacted. it could have been worse than Clark kicking Ruiz.
Same old GALLINAS VERDES (not river plate) always cheating

The Barcelona-Valencia game was thrilling. Timo Hildebrand was spectacular in goal, but got incredible assist on one play in the first half. After making a great save, he was out of position to stop a rebound shot that was stopped by a defender, and the following rebound shot by Messi almost knocked out another defender as it caromed off his face and back into play.
On the winning goal, Hildebrand (no wonder he's Germany's #1 now) made a fine save off off Eto'o. Ironically, as he he backpedaled to get back in goal, the rebound shot came through right across the spot he'd been laying on after the save on Eto'o.
Additional irony -- Eto'o handled the ball. just about the way that our beloved Gomito did as he pushed past the Fire defense. For some reason, that's OK in Barcelona.
