United, Wizards Tie
D.C. and K.C. played to a 1-1 tie in an exhibition divided into three, 30-minute periods this morning in Bradenton, Fla. Midfielder Carlos Marinelli converted a penalty kick for the Wizards and central back Pat Carroll, a rookie trialist from West Virginia and younger brother of Columbus's Brian and D.C.'s Jeff, scored the late equalizer.
United started Wells in goal, Namoff, McTavish, Martinez and Burch along the back, Mediate and Fred on the flanks, Simms behind Gallardo and Moreno and Emilio up top. Gallardo played about half the match in the playmaking role, which was later filled by Moose and Fred. Dyachenko and Kpene did not play because of injury, J. Carroll is back in D.C. to be re-examined, Peralta is on personal leave and several rookies returned to school. Gonzaga High grad Grady Renfrow (Penn State) played the final 30 minutes at left back.
