Lopez Nears Deal, Mina Talks Heat Up

I am hearing that Argentine forward Claudio Lopez is scheduled to fly from his home in Cordoba to Buenos Aires today and meet up with the Kansas City Wizards to finalize a two-year contract that would make him the club's first designated player. As usual with major international negotiations, there is always the possibility of a last-minute issue ruining the deal -- Veron! -- but from what I'm being told by an MLS/Latin American contact, Lopez is planning to sign.

The Insider has also learned that Dallas is talking with both Houston and San Jose about a trade involving Roberto Mina's MLS rights. As we've reported, the Ecuadoran forward was on the brink of re-signing with FCD before the deal collapsed last Friday. Mina also apparently has a firm offer from a club in Argentina, where he has been training.

More as we hear it.....
