DCU News and Notes

*MF-D Devon McTavish (sprained foot-ankle) and MF Fred (bruised quadriceps) worked out on the side and did not participate in regular workouts. MF-D Domenic Mediate (hamstring) remains out.

"I feel much better," Fred said, adding that he thinks he'll be ready for Sunday's match at Colorado.

Coach Tom Soehn believes Fred will be set for Sunday, but wasn't sure at this point whether McTavish or Mediate will be available.

*Who wins goal of the week: Marcelo Gallardo or Amado Guevara? You decide. Tough call. Guevara's shot was spectacular, but Gallardo's degree of difficulty -- it's always harder to strike a moving ball -- was higher. Thoughts?

*The tug of war between New York and Chicago over defender Lider Marmol is finally over as the Paraguayan defender signed with the Fire. He is awaiting his visa. Terms were not disclosed.

Marmol last played with Hercules CF in Spain's second division in the latter stages of the 2007 season. Marmol, 22, signed with Hercules during that season's December transfer window and had an immediate impact in the center of the team's defense. He started 11 matches and scored one goal. Prior to the 2007-2008 campaign, Marmol (6 feet 1, 195 pounds) was invited for preseason tryouts with English sides Coventry City FC and Reading FC.
