Moose Watch

Third-year midfielder Justin Moose, a former first-round draft pick who earned a developmental deal this preseason after D.C. United declined to exercise the option on his previous contract, was waived. He has been with the Vancouver Whitecaps for the past week and is now free to sign with the USL1 club.

"We believe this will be a great opportunity for him to go and get quality playing time in Vancouver and we wish him the best of luck," DCU GM Dave Kasper said.

United could have loaned him to the Whitecaps, but MLS's quirky rules would have required DCU to keep him on its 28-man roster.

*The club is in negotiations with defenders Jeff Curtin and Mike Zaher, who have been training with the club. With those two expected to sign, DCU told UCLA rookie Brandon Owens that "he should start looking around" elsewhere, Kasper said. United retains Owens's MLS rights.

*Liberian forward Francis Doe's trial will continue all week. "We thought he did pretty well with the Red Bulls last year, he's young [22], and we have a senior roster spot," Kasper said.

*Ben Olsen has discontinued workouts for a week or two while he receives treatment on his slowly recuperating left ankle. He is receiving injections and therapy to stimulate healing.
