DCU Training Update
*Argentine forward Franco Niell, who has been left off the 18-man roster the last two matches, is getting discouraged by his lack of playing time.
"Any player in this situation would be not only very discouraged, but very worried," he said through an interpreter.
Asked what he has been told by the coaching staff, he said in English, "Nothing." He then explained in Spanish that he has been told he wasn't up to being on the 18.
Niell, on loan from Argentinos Juniors, has made three league starts and entered as a substitute four times for 279 minutes and one assist. He scored in the 90th minute against Pachuca in the second leg of the Champions' Cup semifinals, a 2-1 victory at RFK. His $150,000 base salary is eighth highest on the club.
Much more on this subject in Wednesday's print edition (available online late tonight).
*Devon McTavish, whose head got in the way of Amado Guevara's fist after McTavish's foul on the Toronto playmaker near midfield in the second half, said: "He took a little pop at me. I had some ringing in my ear, but all is well."
