Moreno's Bolivia Status

DCU team captain Jaime Moreno has been asked by the Bolivian federation to report to national team training camp this Sunday -- almost two weeks ahead of its World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Paraguay at home -- but he said he does not think the club will allow him to depart so soon.

United Coach Tom Soehn said the team has not received a formal request and did not want to speculate.

United has league matches on June 4, 7, 14 and 22. Bolivia is scheduled to play the two qualifiers between June 14 and 18. United is obligated to release him five days before a qualifier, if a formal request is submitted.

Asked if Bolivia would still want him if he were not available until June 8, Moreno said he was not sure. If he is called up at the later date, he would miss only one MLS match: June 14 vs. New York at RFK.

"I would like to play, but sometimes it doesn't work the way you want it," he said. "I understand [Bolivia's] position, but at the same time, I have got to play here."

United has already lost forward Francis Doe, a Liberian national team player, for several weeks for African qualifiers, and, by reading the previous thread, you know where the Franco Niell situation stands.
