Well, that was easy...

(must...refrain...)

It's gotta be T&T...some of there best players are black listed from the squad and they aren't exactly dominating teams they have played so far.

Posted by: Ben Canada | June 13, 2008 3:35 PM | Report abuse

Has to be El Salvador upsetting Panama. Teams that know each other but of course Panama has dominated lately.

What I want to know is: Who the 2% are (well, all three or four of you) who think Barbados will knock off the USA, and why...

Posted by: Anonymous | June 13, 2008 3:40 PM | Report abuse

Honduras beaten by PR was my number 2 choice, not a popular one I see. PR seems to have a pretty strong side at the moment. Honduras is strong of course as well, but I think PR could give them a run.

Posted by: Matte | June 13, 2008 3:44 PM | Report abuse

I was in El Salvador when they beat Panama in WCQ 4 years ago and people were really excited about it. Until they got beat down by later opponents.

Posted by: CACuzcatlan | June 13, 2008 3:46 PM | Report abuse

Could someone from Puerto Rico play for the US National team?

I think Panama/El Salvador is a tough matchup.

Could you imagine what would happen to Sven if his Mexican squad lost to Belize? It would probably get physically dangerous for Sven to step foot in Mexico.

Of course, I would laugh and laugh and laugh.

Posted by: TCompton | June 13, 2008 3:50 PM | Report abuse

Honduras-Puerto Rico already played the first leg, with Honduras winning 4-0. I'd have to say that PR advancing doesn't look good.

Honduras/El Salvador is the tougher match,
El Salvador!!!

Posted by: Elvis | June 13, 2008 4:00 PM | Report abuse

TCompton,

Chris Armas, of Puerto Rican descent, played for Puerto Rico (unofficially, according to FIFA) before committing to the USA for full international duty.

From Wikipedia (take it for what it's worth):

"Armas played for Puerto Rico in the 1993 Shell Caribbean Cup. The competition was not then recognized by FIFA and so his five matches were classed as friendlies. He was therefore later allowed to switch his allegiance to the USA, for whom he made his debut November 6, 1998 against Australia."

I think the 2% are members of the Kenny "The Second Coming of Pele" Cooper's fanclub.

you're a damn idiot if you think bermuda is gonna take T&T. they brought enough players in their friendly vs england. if it weren't for a lack of discipline and consistent coaching T&T would be contender to make every WC. whats sad is that they've produced far better players than the US has. and you're talkign about a country with a population of 1.3 million!

its panama-el salvador by a mile as most of the intelligent pollsters have picked.

With all the competing 'nations' in CONCACAF like Martinique, Suriname and the Netherland Antilles, I am still waiting for the District of Columbia to apply for FIFA membership.

Posted by: AM | June 13, 2008 4:38 PM | Report abuse

Many voted before they saw the "none of the above option".

Posted by: pigman sweet | June 13, 2008 4:58 PM | Report abuse

"None of the above" really doesn't fit the question. The question is which team is AT MOST RISK to be upset, not who will be upset. I expect no upsets in this round, but Panama clearly is at most risk because El Salvador is capable -- it would not be a shock. Any other upset is a huge shock.

Posted by: Troy | June 13, 2008 5:09 PM | Report abuse

The answer is:
Who cares, it's CONCACAF

One wonders why Suriname doesn't have a better team. Gotta be some interest in soccer down there.

Born in Suriname: Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Aron Winter, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Of Surinamese descent: Frank Rijkaard, Ruud Gullit, Patrick Kluivert, Ryan Babel.

there's another troy posting on this blog? welcome!

There is a Kenny "The Second Coming of Pele" Cooper's fanclub?! If so, where can I join! (I would also be willing to accept joining a Kenny "The Second Coming of Somebody better than EJ" Cooper fanclub).

Though in all fairness to EJ, playing CONCACAF minnows is where he excels. US 3-0

Sven takes over in July 2008. Chuco Ramirez will be the DT against Belize.

I-270, it's a little more complicated for Suriname. The large Nederlands population of Maroons predates Suriname's independence. Present day suriname has more true Indians and javanese people than creoles and Maroons. It's a CRAZY country. I'm more partial to the Kingdom islands like Bonaire.

Posted by: LeesburgSoccerFan | June 13, 2008 9:33 PM | Report abuse

Thanks. Maybe the Suriname federation should go after descendents of ex-pats who aren't good enough for the Dutch team. Maybe they could mix in their recent Brazilian immigrants. Maybe I should stop giving them ideas.

I know Haiti are supposed to be decent, but I like the Netherlands Antilles. They already knocked out Nicaragua by winning both legs of the home-and-home.

Scouting report says that Suriname cannot use their Netherlands-based players in qualifying. Now for the first time, the Antilles can. I have no idea why that is.

Pet peeve alert! Actually, Troy already mentioned it.

As is so often the case in such polls, "None of the above" is not a logical answer to the question as it is phrased.

Posted by: Justin O | June 14, 2008 4:37 AM | Report abuse

Addition - OK, it wasn't really writen "none of the above" but "none will be eliminated" represented the same sentiment.

"What I want to know is: Who the 2% are (well, all three or four of you) who think Barbados will knock off the USA, and why...

Posted by: | June 13, 2008 3:40 PM "

You should probably ask that question en Espanol if you catch my drift. Just guessing their national team allegiance there. :)

Posted by: papa bear | June 14, 2008 8:23 AM | Report abuse

Barbados is about as Hispanic as Jamaica, so I'm not sure how asking that question en Espanol would make any difference.

Posted by: tri-village | June 14, 2008 8:36 AM | Report abuse

I think Panama and Costa Rica are the only ones in real danger of not making it through, but you can never be sure about the others

Well, if they didn't understand that question then they wouldn't have understood the poll question either.

Now didn't I call it....T&T losing to Bermuda...so who's the idiot now clueless :).

Posted by: Ben Canada | June 15, 2008 9:21 PM | Report abuse

I think if we run this poll again, T&T will be the pick to get ousted now.

Posted by: JJ | June 16, 2008 1:58 AM | Report abuse

I look for Belize to take down Mexico.

Fcok the Mexibamas and the empty tractor trailers in which they're smuggled!
