Evolving Galaxy

As we told you yesterday, the Galaxy has been trying to trade Guatemalan forward Carlos Ruiz, who did not accompany the club to Washington over the weekend. Today we hear that Los Angeles is moving closer to signing a mid-level Argentine central defender. No other details are available at this time.

Mr. Goff,

Can we assume that you are refering to the widely reported imminent signing of eduardo dominguez?

Does your comment mean that you've heard something official that it is a done deal?

In other words, how is your report different then the ones that have circulated for days?

Keep up the great work,

Mike

Any chance Ruiz would go to San Jose? They could certainly use him. And Yallop's been talking about a talent infusion....

Bringing Ruiz and his large salary back to L.A. was another major blunder by Lalas & his minions. Just think what Beckham and Donovan could do if they had a competent GM to build a decent team behind them.

Still reeling a bit from yesterday, Mike? We understand. But because the LAT doesn't have a beat writer as good as our own Mr. Goff doesn't mean you should vent your frustration on this highly acclaimed, award-winning soccer blog.

Unlike most reporters these days, Goff doesn't delve into rumors. He's demonstrated his skill in getting the facts, then reporting them. You say "widely reported?" Where? Big Soccer?

C'mon, dude. West Coasters are supposed to be laid back and all. Like, right? Jump into the debate waters here -- it's warm and comfortable. Just don't bash Goff without a legitimate reason.

So what you're saying is that the Galaxy are trading Ruiz to DC for Peralta?

;-)

Posted by: Greenbelt United | June 30, 2008 4:55 PM | Report abuse

How about the Galaxy send Ruiz to the Fire for Conde and the Fire send Ruiz to Toronto for the rights to Brian McBride?

Too clean and simple for MLS?

Hey, sorry didn't mean to seem critical of the report, I'm just wondering about the timing of it. Does it represent anything new?

Widely reported as in this article from 5 days ago:

http://www.patriaquemera.com.ar/movimiento-de-jugadores-en-el-plantel-aid983.html

with several other news articles in spanish since.

Clearly Goff's the best beat writer in the league. His reporting it makes it a certainty but it's odd to have it reported as if it is a new item.

Clearly you whooped us yesterday. As Goff says, we're an evolving team.

Sweet banner to honor Olsen yesterday.

More like the Argentine press and on certain rumors sites.

Isn't Ruiz a "grandfathered" DP player like Landycakes?

Will they ever become normal DP players or are they exempt from official DP allocation for their remaining time in MLS?

Also with WC qualifing in progress I'm guessing he is going to be spending lots of time in Guatemala especially after his 4 goal game. Seems like a risky pick-up for any team that needs a quality player on the field for the remainder of the season.

If these "podium" posts are anything like the "first" posts, please either give it a rest or take it back to 4th grade where it belongs. Yikes. Stupidity knows no bounds.

Seeing that Ruiz is all but gone, now that Buddle has proven himself a solid forward and claimed a starting spot it makes me wonder if Bradley might have some interest in bringing Edson into Nat's next camp for at least a look. Figuring that Altidore being unavailable for Guatemala and no other striker who's really shown us much on a consistant basis(Sorry EJ,Ching,Twellman et al)anyone else think it's time to bring EBud on down?

Is it me or is MLS getting to be like the NFL? Veteran contract too large - you get cut. The guys on FSC alluded to as much about Nico Hernandez getting 86'd by Columbus on Saturday. Of course, the league snipers were trained on them so they could not talk about it in a transparent way. Now Ruiz. I know the guaranteed contract deadline is coming up. Are any other disappointing vets on the block? Can the MetroBulls cut Reyna?

I think this is where Beckham comes in very handy - I gotta imagine it's easier to persuade players to come to the Galaxy with a chance to play alongside Beckham.

A bit OT: It has come to my attention that MLS All-Star voting will wrap in a couple of days. Is there any indication as to how various DCU players may be doing in this derby? (Not that fan voting by itself decides anything, of course.) I suppose it could be argued that given United's fixture congestion, the nicest thing that could happen to your favorite player would be non-selection.

Posted by: tri-village | June 30, 2008 6:15 PM | Report abuse

Most DC United fans vote for other teams players for the meaningless "All Star Game".

Let them get tired out/injured while our guys get a nice rest.

Could Colorado be making a move for Ruiz by sending Erpen out there?

Joe Doc:

This might just be me, but your knock on Mike in LA seems harsh. He's just respectfully asking a question (even signed it with a "Keep up the great work"). SG isn't ours...his blog is open to everyone.

I don't necessarily mean to single you out, but the regular readers here seem to really come down on non-United fans. We're getting a bit homogeneous. I personally feel we get a slight uptick in debate quality when it's not just Loud Side regulars agreeing that we are awesome/Wells is bad/TV commentators suck. I know it's an unpopular sentiment, but one of the most thought-provoking regulars on this board is Mastodon Juan. I'm not saying he's always right, but he's no dolt either.

In other words, not every example of dissent deserves a booking.

Josh Wolff signed by KC Wiz.

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/685798.html

He was not impressive against England and Spain; that doesn't mean, of course, that Josh won't put some in the back of the net for KC.

Ruiz is a punk, his actions on the field are disgraceful, his attitude is terrible, i hope he never plays again

Posted by: Paul | June 30, 2008 8:11 PM | Report abuse

as a quakes fan ,HELL NO would i take ruiz. by the way i don't see him scoring in double digits anymore. doesn't seem as interested or have that hunger anymore. plus he had a good midfield in dallas (better than ours) and only scored about 7 gaoals. no thanks. were pretty desperate , but not that bad.

No one north of the border wants him. History of diving for Guatemala against the Canadian nats is long and viewed with derision.

Posted by: jloome | June 30, 2008 8:52 PM | Report abuse

Mastodon Juan thought provoking?! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. There is a reason why mastodons are extinct. He just an elephant in a bobble head shop.

Chicago for Ruiz. Please!

What's up with the Noonan deal getting nixed by the league?

Not that I mind, I don't want Cowlumbus getting any better.

"No one north of the border wants him. History of diving for Guatemala against the Canadian nats is long and viewed with derision."

Not just the diving...remember his elbow to Richard Hasting's face in the Gold Cup quarter-final? Sent Hastings out of the game. This is the day before he came up to Toronto with FC Dallas and continued his diving exhibition.

The only consolation is that the aggregate score of the aforementioned two games was TFC/Canada 7 - 0 Guatemala/FC Dallas.

Ruiz is a disgrace.

Tying this thread with the next one about tonight's US Open Cup game, when DC United played the Burn there a few years ago, Carlos Ruiz did one of his classic dives. I shouted out, "Awwww, did Carlos get a boo-boo?" Everyone around laughed and I'm sure, being as this was at the Soccerplex, it was heard on the field. Ruiz almost makes Blanco seem legit!

I'm with you, Chest. It just seemed that Mike in LA's comment was dripping with sarcasm. I'm all for fair criticism (I've taken my deserved share), but I thought Mike's comments were harsh. He later cleared that up, which I appreciate.

Ricardo Clark needs to be on the field when the USMNT goes to Guatemala....Oye Carlos te recuerdas "The Stomping"? The suspension was well worth it Ricardo, thank you for giving The hack what he needed.....

POOR PESCADITO - He never had a chance with Coach .. .. RG puts a lot of emphasis (rightly so) on conditioning and cardio work, and Fishie is just not a fan of training .. .. It was a pairing that just was NEVER going to work - Think Pamela Anderson!

And we don't get his DP spot when we trade him, either .. .. =((

Oh well, you don't know until you try, I reckon .. ..

BUDDLE is terrific, talented, technically-brilliant, but is worthless unless he gets service .. .. Whereas RUIZ can hold the ball up, turn and create, BUDDLE can't .. ..

EB will be devastating as long as BECKS suits up for us .. ..

Maybe "Mike in LA" is really Eduardo Dominguez's wife trying confirm what Eduardo told her. She is getting a little nervous that the respected Mr Goff has come upon information that Eduardo isn't headed to LA and her plans are thwarted and she will be the subject of much ridicule from her family that were all planning on visiting.

Give her a break jeez.

(warning sarcasm drip alert)

Trade Payne to LA for some extra practice balls and a water bucket.
