BREAKING NEWS: United Game Postponed Again
D.C. United's makeup game against the Houston Dynamo tonight at RFK Stadium has been postponed. This is not a joke.
The reason is power outages throughout Southeast Washington, including RFK, according to club spokesman Doug Hicks. The match will be played Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The game was originally scheduled for June 4, but after the teams played 15 minutes, it was postponed because of severe thunderstorms. It was the first postponement of a United home game in its 13-season history.
Tickets stamped with June 4 or July 22 will be accepted at the stadium tomorrow.

I was thinking the same thing, only I think it's worse than that for Houston.
In addition to the All-Stars Onstead and De Rosario, Clark is out due to his red card suspension for the original game, and both Ianni and Holden are already a couple days late for Olympic camp. Throw in Mulrooney's and Ching's injuries and another day in a hotel for the entire team and Dominic Kinnear must be having a fit about now.

Not necessarily. World Team Tennis coverage is on the CSN schedule for tomorrow night, just like tonight. Presumably, this was all finalized long before anyone had any idea that there might be a soccer game at RFK tonight, let alone tomorrow night. As I mentioned in a previous thread, perhaps CSN can be persuaded to tape the game, and then find some slot on its schedule for a delayed broadcast, perhaps bumping an infomercial or two.

ERRRRNT! Try again. There are barely any outages in the area. RFK is the only dump without power in 20003. The stadium is run by the District Sports and Entertainment Commission, which is overseen by the District Government. DC United pay rent to the city for use of the stadium. This is an RFK problem, hence it's the city's problem.

The Champions Club is on the 300 level behind the South goal. There is free food (and it's pretty good too), but only for certain ticket holders. You have to show your ticket to gain entry. Field level seat holders and I think mezzanine box holders get access. And there are some particular groups that get in too like people associated with the night's partner/sponsor.

Off topic (but what the hell). Italian authorities prevented the buyout of Lazio with laundered Mafia money. They are currently seeking Giorgio Chignalia, who fled the country two years ago, after charges of extortion and insider trading were filed. Chignalia was last seen in 2006 in Bristol, CT and his known associates are Eric Wynalda, Rob Stone, and Julie Foudy (OK, the last sentence is not in the wire report).

Dadryan,
It is located above the south goal (where DC warms up pregame). You get to it from the main concourse. My seats are just above it on the mezzanine level. I think they are the best seats in the stadium. You see the game from quite a different perspective. You can see the plays develop and quite a bit of excitement right under your nose.
The Champion's Club isn't set up very well, though. Only good seats are barstools at a high counter overlooking the field. The rest of the area is regular tables. You have to watch the game on TV from the tables.

Does anyone know how much DC United pays to use RFK?
Whatever it is, assuming its over $1/game, they are getting ripped off.
They don't get concessions
They don't get parking revenue
They don't get working ATM's
They don't get enough vendors
They don't get any repairs to any of the facility
Now they don't get electricity
So what exactly do they get from playing at RFK? Ticket sales?
Forget the new stadium lets concentrate on getting what we deserve to get from our current contract with DC.
The new stadium will cost DC what $120 million? DC United sue the crap out of the city for breach of contract for the full value of the lease at RFK...I'm guessing that will be at least $100 million. Use that money to build the new stadium at Poplar Point.

Later days, TFC... way to lose to a team with David Testo starting.
I wish we could get CBC down here. Their soccer coverage is down right responsible. That's got to be on some expensive package from DirecTV...

Re: Of course, the Alamo isn't even associated with Houston, any more than the Liberty Bell is associated with Baltimore.
_____
What??? The Alamo is NOT in Houston? Are you also going to tell me that the Germans DIDN'T bomb Pearl Harbor? Or that George Washington didn't chop down a cherry tree to start the War of 1812? Stop messing with my mind!!!
And... Vamos United!

What? Rain has been good to us. We will destroy the Dynamo . . .

The Weather Channel site shows no thunderstorm activity within about 100 miles of the District at this, what would have been kickoff time. We should be so lucky 24 hours from now.

Just got back from the non-game. Very unhappy. Cannot go tomorrow because of prior plans. Which I wouldn't have made had the game been scheduled then in the first place.
Oh well. 2 1/2 hours and a 1/4 tank of gas for nothing.

Not a bad song,
but The song should be by FUGAZI

Steve:
How about you do an investigation into why there wasn't a game tonight? I suspect there's a story there either way -- either PEPCO is bunglng its job as power provider in a post deregulation world (entirely plausible) or the Sports and Entertainment Commission masked the inadequacy of their maintenance or RFK, and their ineptitude, by claiming a power outage in "southeast" when it was really just RFK.

Dudes no offense but the canned Adidas "bad brains" song is not very good. Does HR have anything to do with it? Who's doing the corny rap?
Seriously can DC ever get over themselves and Fugazi/minor threat?
No offense but that's more irritating than people crying for Christian Gomez to come back.
Please DC, someone out there start a band worth talking about again so we don't have to hear it anymore. A Gallardo of a band if you will.
I love Bad Brains and MT as much as the next guy but geez.

Just got home (C'ville). There's another six hours of my life I'll never get back, plus about ten from the last time the game was scheduled. I was gonna feel sorry for myself, but I rode the metro back to Vienna with a lady and her two sons who'd traveled up from Raleigh NC. Ouch.

My wife and I got warned off at the Vienna Metro. This game is cursed and should be cancelled and both teams given a point.

really no offense... Bad Brains latest offering is pretty ok, and I've had my Fugazi loving days, I'm just surprised this is the first I've seen these theme songs mentioned on here when they've been out as far back as last season I think.
I was wondering if anyone out there had headed to the game without the postponment news...Guess so..
Bummer
It sucks for those who can't go tomorrow but it sounds like some folks get to make it now that the day has changed so good for them.
Here's to the game actually happening tomorrow.

Asitis,
An unfortunate day, I would say. However, I rode the metro (then the metrobus since the metro was broken down in falls church) before the first Houston match with a gentleman who comes up once a year from Florida to go to a United match.

Just a little while ago on Fox5 News they said that there was a power outage at the Benning Rd. substation that happened at 2am this morning that is causing the power outage at RFK. They "hope" to have it fixed by 3am tomorrow. I guess we'll see.

Glaucon,
Yeah, I'm over myself. The folks from NC gave me some perspective. They were trying to figure out if they could stay another day.
Me? I'll be back tomorrow. This will become a "legend" like the frozen game vs Harbour View at the Plex in "05.

This is unacceptable. RFK, Will Chang and the front office needs to make this up to their fans.

Were other homes and businesses in the vicinity affected? Other people posting here were pointing out that Pepco's maps made it look as if they were not.

Yes, apparently there was a housing project that was also without power throughout yesterday. Collateral damage, I'm sure.
