DCU, MLS Updates

*D.C. United returned from a three-day break for morning workouts, and despite Coach Tom Soehn's declaration last week that reinforcements are on the way, there were no trialists here today. I will have comments from Soehn and GM Dave Kasper on a new thread soon.

*The Brian McBride-Chad Barrett trade will be finalized soon, but there are no guarantees Barrett will be in Toronto next year. He is in the final year of his MLS contract.

*The combined TV audience for the All-Star Game on ESPN and Telefutura was 842,000, a 124 percent increase from last year. The largest all-star viewership on one outlet was 806,000 on ABC in 2004.

*Now that all of its members are back from vacation, the U.S. Soccer Federation's five-person Adjudication and Discipline Panel tomorrow will begin reviewing the Cuauhtemoc Blanco incident during the July 8 U.S. Open Cup match with DCU. Blanco is accused of head-butting a game supervisor after being red-carded. Though it was not a league game, MLS may decide to take action after the USSF's ruling because Blanco is a league employee. As we reported last week, evidence not seen in public has apparently been introduced. The panel is represented by a member from MLS, USL1, USL2, the amateur division and by a player. The USSF did not reveal their identities. No timetable for announcing the ruling has been set.

First. Speaking of firsts, if the FO is angling for the first pick, they're going to have to do even worse than they have so far.

Goff,

I hope your typing fast because by the sound of your last post, it looks like more huff and puff from Soehn and Kasper about re-inforcements without anything legitimate to back it all up!

I am getting tired of Dyastinko and the lack of depth on the bench. UGGggg!

Cmon FF, you're better than that!

I suppose the fact that the All-Star game had an increase is a good thing, since it was on a Thursday night this time. Still, that rating is minuscule.

Who are we kidding? MLS isn't going to do squat about Blanco. Let's be serious.

I can feel you slipping away from me.
A little bit further now every day.
I'm holding on, but I can't believe
This is how you want it to be.

Oh, you're slipping away.
Oh, you're slipping away.

The Bolivian Federation formally requested that Jaime Moreno be made available for the Guatemala friendly on 8/6. Platini Sanchez will announce his lineup later today.

Thanks Goff for staying on the Blanco story. MLS and the USSF would have hoped to sweep this incident under the rug weeks ago if only they could get that darn beat reporter to leave them alone :)

Didn't MLS suspend Stoichkov for a red card he received in a pre-season friendly for accidentally breaking someone's leg? I would think that intentionally head-butting a game supervisor would receive much more notice by the MLS higher ups.

Great job on the updates on this Mr. Goff.

FF,

Why would they go for the #1 overall? They'd just trade it away, anyway...

You folks are like a bunch of snitches concerning this Blanco thing. Waaah! Blanco isn't getting in trouble, Waaah! You remind me of my little sisters.

Nothing that will make any difference to the Fire will be levied against Blanco and you're nuts if you think otherwise.

Stop your snitching and crying, pull up your big-boy pants and start acting like men. OK?

Thanks for the updates Goff! You saved my day once again!!!

Speaking of pulling up your big-boy pants and start acting like men, maybe you could give Blanco the same advice.

Snitching? Go back to study hall Rodney.

@ Ed the Red.
I'll cut you if WATB sells you a "Stop Snithcing" T-Shirt before he sells me mine. And nobody better say anything.

Toronto gets the shaft.
Donnie G does it again.

Glad to see McBride back.

How long will the "victimized" DCU staffer be suspended for being a moron?

Good point about Barrett maybe not being in the league next year. He could be in USL2 if he keeps finishing like he has been. :)

"there are no guarantees Barrett will be in Toronto next year. He is in the final year of his MLS contract."

I don't know, SonicDeathMonkey, I heard he was getting a lot of interest from Big 4 clubs looking to inflate their goalkeeper's confidence in training matches...
