Greetings From RFK

Some things you should know about DCU's acquisition of Ivan Guerrero:

*I'm hearing that a portion of his salary ($147,000 guaranteed) will remain on San Jose's books this season.

*Guerrero entered in the second half in each of Honduras's World Cup qualifiers against Puerto Rico this summer and presumably will be named to the roster for the Aug. 20 semifinal-round opener at Mexico -- the same day as DCU's match at New England. Honduras also has two qualifiers in early September (Canada and Jamaica), one of which conflicts with United's Sept. 6 game at San Jose.

*Midfielder Joe Vide, Guerrero's teammate at San Jose for several months, said: "He's hard working, a good guy and an honest player. I'm happy to have him here. He was one of the more consistent players at San Jose. He missed some time to be with his national team, which hurt [San Jose] a little bit. It's definitely going to benefit us. He's a tireless worker -- I've never seen him outworked by anybody. ... Playing in the middle, you know you are going to have his support on the outside. There are not going to be holes out there. He's a good attacking player and he's going to get his crosses in. ... He's a little shy with his English -- he's better than he thinks."

Said defender Bryan Namoff, who had to deal with Guerrero on the flank regularly the last three years: "He took us apart in the playoffs [with Chicago]. Very skillful, very quick, good technically on the ball and he gives us some speed."

I will have more from Coach Tom Soehn later.

Also today.....

*Forward Francis Doe will miss two to four weeks with a foot infection that has affected him since last year.

*Defender Gonzalo Peralta, recovering from sports hernia surgery, was ill today and his status for Saturday remains uncertain.

*Midfielder Craig Thompson, a regular since being acquired from Houston a few weeks ago, has been upgraded to senior developmental status and defender Mike Zaher has been dropped to a lower developmental slot. They essentially switched places, which means more money for Thompson and less for Zaher.

I will update this thread with DCU comments and other information shortly.....
