Badilla-to-Revs Is Set

I'm hearing that New England VP of player personnel Mike Burns was in Costa Rica over the weekend to finalize the acquisition of defender Gabriel Badilla from Saprissa. Badilla, 24, is currently with the national team and awaiting a work visa and other paperwork to be completed. Barring a last-minute snag, he will be in a Revs uniform later this month.

A young defender with World Cup experience next to Parkhurst? Excellent!

Posted by: AndrewK | August 12, 2008 1:24 PM | Report abuse

seriously we need to sign some talent especially fowards. DC United is a hospital this year with all these injuries.
Goff, any idea why the FO isn't pursuing anyone. Is it the cap space. or is it the selfishness of VMF or WC?

I think this is a sign that they expect Parkhurst to leave. I believe he didn't renew his contract and this is the last year of his deal.

I hear that if VMac and Will drive attendance levels low enough their is a clause that will allow them to move the team to another city (Miami)... so they are purposfully putting together a team that will finish dead last.
A bunch of has-beens and never will-bes.

jgildea: well, you may have a point...what kind of bus were they using to get to the Italian Body Farm?

Didn't we just pick up THREE new players (Guerrero + Vide + Crayton)?

but we need a am.. when gallardo is out.. all we have left is dyastinko..
we need a player that can attack while in his natural position.. not like the usual when we put fred in am and move some one to the rm.. we need someone that likes to play cam without shifting anyone.

I love how frustrated we DC United fans get after some losses. Patience is a virtue my friends, we're finally healthy (for the most part) and we've got some new guys in so we should see results in oh 60 to 90..... ;-)

we are even more frustrated when we lose to the Pink Cows!

There is a salary cap guys and United probably doesn't have much more money to spend.

If Wells and Crayton don't work out by years end I recommend looking at a Colombian keeper by the name of Agustin Julio. Watching him currently on GolTV and he looks fabulous.

Lets see.... LA Galaxy + 3DP's= Garbage
NYRB + 2DP's= Garbage
DC United + 2DP's=mediocre
Dynamo & Revs + 0DP's= 4MLS
Cup appearances the last 2
years

I think DC does a great job with their scouting, but with the salary cap, there has to be a balance to achieve depth, and until the salary cap expands (hopefully by 2010)having multiple DP's hinders a team.

DC is a game under .500. Last time I checked that is not mediocre. Sheesh unless every game is a win, some people will never be satisfied.

Posted by: United fury | August 12, 2008 2:41 PM | Report abuse

2008 DC United is a joke compared to the 2007 and 1996 United..
we are not satisfied because we are not used to losing.. DC United is excpeted to win every game because of the accomplishments of 2007 United

The 2007 team was terrible the last two months of the season and crashed in the playoffs. I don't think that team is what we should be aspiring to.

You would sign on the dotted line too if Mike Burns threaten to beat the stuffing out of you in an airplane bathroom.

If Gabriel Badilla were over 30 then DC would be interested or if he'd been dropped by another MLS team.

Fury, I would certainly define .500 as mediocre (not to mention tied for last in your division). How would you define mediocre? I'm not a total doom-and-gloomer, but our record is definitely mediocre.

Posted by: Terp | August 12, 2008 4:07 PM | Report abuse

mediocre (adjective): of moderate to low quality; average; also a synonym for DC United's 2008 team.

(so far)

Congrads United Fury, you win the twit of the day award. Wear it proud.

I hear LAG have an extra foward and are in need of another defender... sounds kinda fishy if you ask me.
