Matchnight: United-Rapids
Greetings from RFK Stadium.
No Olsen. No Mediate. No Doe. No Peralta. No Gallardo. No Fred. No Wells. No Burch. No Comcast SportsNet.
If Dyachenko, Namoff or Simms receives a yellow card, they'll miss next weekend's match against New York.
So, any Insider loyalists interested in suiting up? Developmental rates apply.
Back later with the lineup.....
DCU (3-5-2): Crayton; Namoff, McTavish, Martinez; Thompson, Vide, Simms, Quaranta, Guerrero; Moreno, Emilio. Subs: Thorpe, OLSEN, Dyachenko, P. Carroll, Cordeiro, Kirk, Zaher.
Notes......
*Bolivia has requested Jaime Moreno for World Cup qualifiers Sept. 6 at Ecuador and Sept. 10 at Brazil, but it is unclear whether he will report for one game, two games or neither.
*Fred (hamstring) says he might be back in two weeks, not 3 or 4.
*Domenic Mediate has not made any progress and might end up being put on the season-ending injury list if the club needs a senior roster spot, GM Dave Kasper said.
*The club is looking at a few USL players to possibly acquire on loan next month and fill the one available developmental slot.
*As for Marcelo Gallardo and his slow recovery from sports hernia surgery, "we'll see how he responds this week" before determining a timeline, Kasper said. "He will play again this season. I don't know why anyone is saying otherwise."
As usual, this is the place for pregame, in-game and postgame discussion.

My prediction...1-1 draw and more frustration for DCU fans, but at least one point. Every point matters now!

Will Dyachenko even make the bench after being left behind on Wednesday (even though we could have had 2 more people on the bench and there's been nothing written about an injury)?
Forget player/coach, let's go one further. I'm thinking we see an appearance by player/team administrator Francisco Tobar.

Aside from Wells, that's a pretty fair starting lineup that's out for this game.

I can play just as great as Dyachenko.

"If Dyachenko.. receives a yellow card, [he'll] miss next weekend's match against New York."
More accurately: "If Dyachenko enters the game..."

Video on MLSLive.tv is dark and muddy tonight. Then some DVR going to sleep prompt popped up on the screen for a while until someone pressed a button on their remote to fix it. What the devil is that all about?

So, United actually has a full bench and is playing a 3-5-2 again, huh? Let me know how that goes. As long as the subs for the game are, specifically, Kirk, Olsen, and Cordeiro, I'll be OK
Posted by: person | August 23, 2008 8:02 PM | Report abuse
pretty slow game so far. i cant even find some DCU players' names in the program. only 3 to 4 fouls in 30 minutes and hardly any chances. the new GK is playing well. i am going looking for the margaritas. tks for the tip.

Was that Vide with the goal or Olsen? With that kind of shoestring onetime shot, I swear it had to be someone named Benny. Like Olsen... Or Feilhaber... Benny Vide?
Posted by: DCUMD | August 23, 2008 8:28 PM | Report abuse
OMG! You mean Vide actually scored a goal? That's just freaking awesome!!

Anyone know who the yellow people are in the upper deck with the MLS banner are?
Posted by: gnat | August 23, 2008 8:31 PM | Report abuse
The people in the upper deck are ultra-violent super intelligent ape-human hybrids. I don't know why they have a mls banner. They wish to be known as "the overlords".
Posted by: pigman sweet | August 23, 2008 8:34 PM | Report abuse
If the people in the upper deck are ape-human hybrids, why doesn't someone give them bananas?

Seriously, a smattering of boos when Christian Gomez came on? If I was at the game, I'd be clapping for him.
Posted by: DCUMD | August 23, 2008 8:55 PM | Report abuse
I heard many claps, very few (if any) boos. Why didn't he start?
Posted by: soccergirl | August 23, 2008 8:58 PM | Report abuse
All United fans should go on strike against FSC+ commentator Dave Johnson because he just brought up that Larentowicz (did I spell it right?) goal against D.C. on Wednesday. He was taking a free kick from the same distance and Johnson, being an idiot, brought up how, quote, "Larentowicz scored on Wednesday from about the same distance fooling D.C. keeper Louis Crayton." Kill Johnson!

Score:
DCU - 3
Colorado - 0
90th minute
Posted by: DE | August 23, 2008 9:26 PM | Report abuse
So, let's observe the scoring summary:
D.C.: Vide 45th minute
D.C.: Quaranta 82nd minute
D.C.: Kirk 86th minute
Ya think this score's gonna stay the same? In a way I hope so, and in another way I sorta want D.C. to score another goal.
Posted by: person | August 23, 2008 9:30 PM | Report abuse
Granted we were playing against a struggling team but Quaranta looks VERY comfortable in this position. His passing was simply outstanding!!

People in the yellow jersey on the upper deck are sons of Bens and they were cheering for united! I think that's a really good sign that their team doesn't even start iuntil 2010 and they are already heating up.
Posted by: arlington4united | August 23, 2008 10:13 PM | Report abuse
Seriously, the yellow shirts said "Philadelphia 2010." Birth of a rivalry! Can't wait to take the train up for the away matches.
A fine performance tonight, a little slow starting. When Martinez (who was superb all night) moved over to the right side, the left side of the Colorado defense completely collapsed, hence the two late goals. Crayton had a couple of brilliant saves and was in complete command of his box and the back.

Can't wait for the first road trip to the city of brotherly love! For tha matter, when do tickets go on sale for their first game? As long as they're not playing United I'd go and route for them.

Wells who??? Crayton is a keeper! Wish we'd had him all season. Given the injuries Undited has had this season, it's doing amazingly well. Guess we did have some depth to start with.

I mentioned a tiny while back that I thought Vide was some sort of Olsen Clone variant...
He's a little rough and tumble, but daddy like!..
Quaranta's goal was soooooo sweet!
So glad I went to this game tonight, sorry Gomez didn't start, although I think had he gotten the time to ramp up, us United fans may have wished he didn't... RESPECT. I was knocking on wood and lipping off about Christian having the ability to score 3 goals in the last ten minutes. Then Kirk scored.
First half was sooooooooooo boring until Vide scored.
Second half was much better. Winning is good. 10-10-1 kinda sucks points wise but, to me it says United doesn't play dull soccer. Or at least not as dull soccer as some of the other clubs with so many draws.
It' s a shame that the Deadskins bumped a REAL Local team when things are just starting to get interesting!

off topic, women's mountain biking on NBC!!! Mmmm........
So who's going to be down to ride bikes up to Philly for DCU away games? We can always take the Chinatown bus back if we're busted...
Will Philly play in their new stadium in their first year? and if so can someone refresh my memory on it's aproximate location and such?
