Moreno for Qualifiers

.....but not until he plays for D.C. United in the U.S. Open Cup final.

As we told you over the weekend, Bolivia requested the DCU team captain for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador on Sept. 6 and Brazil four days later. United's concern was that he would miss the Open Cup final against Charleston on Sept. 3 at RFK.

However, a compromise has been reached: Moreno will play against the Battery and then join his compatriots the next day. He'll miss United's league game at San Jose on Sept. 6 and return to Washington in time for the Sept. 13 match against Dallas.

Moreno might be back in time for the Dallas game, but I have to wonder whether he'll be fit to play.

Posted by: noptov52 | August 28, 2008 11:24 AM | Report abuse

I sure hope he doesn't play the majority of both games down there. If so we may want to sit him for the Dallas game so he is rested for Saprissa on the 16th.

Wow, just looked at his schedule and talk about jet lag. After the open cup he flies to Bolivia, then to Ecuador, then to Brazil. Back to DC. Then in addition to our MLS travels he will be going to Mexico, Costa Rica and either Honduras or El Salvador. Wow.

Goff,

We need an injury update on players!! Gallardo? Doe? Peralta?

What's up with these guys?!?! It's getting close to crunch time.

Bolivia really needs to hurry up and groom a couple of viable successors to Moreno.

Not related to anything on this thread but this proves that Bruce Arena did play pro soccer. It's the coolest think I have ever seen...

Danny Califf own goal in the 88th minute equalizes the City-Midtjylland UEFA Cup match. And the Danes lost on penalties.

@ JAP:

If that's in the preview, take it with a grain of salt. Gallardo was listed as probable for the NYRB game, but as we Insider Loyalists found out, he wasn't on the trip.

All that matters is that we win USOC and make the playoffs. The Supporters Shield is a lost cause with Champions League coming into play, so the rest of our league games she be treated lightly.

Posted by: DCJ | August 28, 2008 3:24 PM | Report abuse

Kosh:

I couldn't agree more. For all we know, this could be Moreno's last season, and that's a very scary thought when you remember how we've looked without him.

DCJ:

If we take our remaining league games lightly, we will be watching the playoffs at home. Our 5 point lead on 9th place will evaporate very quickly if we go on a losing streak.

WHERE THE &$%@ IS KENNY COOPER?!

Oh. That's ticket info, not the roster. My bad.

Chest Rockwell,

United signed him to a 2 year deal, so we will probably see him again net year.
