Slow Day? Q&A

Day of travel from Chicago, no news from DCU, national team on hiatus until the Cuba match at RFK in a month.....

I'm sure you have a lot of questions. I'm sure I have a few answers.

Submit 'em before 7 p.m. ET in the comments sections below. ONE question per entry and please keep 'em short. I will post the answers late tonight or tomorrow.

On a serious note, speaking of the Champion's League, given that the preliminary rounds were less than greatly attended (save Montreal), what can we expect in terms of the group stage games? How long will it take for this product to grow in terms of stature to where an ESPN would bid for TV against FSC?

What, if any, is the rule on outside jobs for MLS players? What would keep a player from being "hired" to turn-on the automatic sprinklers for say $500,000 to get around the salary cap? How about endorsements? Keep up the great work!

With the celebration of the '98 team coming this weekend, I have this question:

Taking off your reporter hat (or your journalist hat), and putting on your fan hat, what has been your own favorite DCU moment over the years? (Assuming you're wearing your answer hat and I have all my hats in order.)

I figure he doesn't really care what the fans think, but is Bob Bradley at least aware of the extent of unhappiness with his ultra-defensive formation and refusal to cycle different players through the USMNT?

Guillermo aka MLS MVP 2008 pulled a hammy and will not play this weekend at Toronto according to Shawn Mitchell's blog in the Columbus Dispatch.

That sucks, although unlike DC when Gallardo went down, The Crew have got a player on the bench named Pat Noonan. I'm not too worried.

Everyone hates us and we don't care. Here in Columbus, the smell of the Shield is in the air.

Goff,
For MLS, Do you think it would be better to go into a single, unilateral point system or a clausura/apertura schedule with playoffs? Which one sounds more reasonable.

Posted by: TheWashDipsSince88 | September 11, 2008 4:15 PM | Report abuse

DC United has 15 games in two months and we aren't the only team struggling with a congested schedule and the absence of our stars. I think some possible measures that can help with this serious problem are starting the season a month earlier, eliminating the All-Star game, scheduling around FIFA international dates, and continuing to increase the cap so that these teams can get some decent players on their reserve teams. Is MLS even worried about this and what are they planning on doing to help?

Posted by: Red Devil | September 11, 2008 4:29 PM | Report abuse

I did a little research and found at least 3 teams qualified for the CCL have a 3rd jersey. Impact and Islanders are two of them, also Cruz Azul...
I think it would be a cool opportunity for the club to make some more money, and also give the fans a little something extra for their wardrobe. How about something a little less hot than black, and a little less bad luck than the white. Maybe gold?
Is DCU's management, etc. too rigid for such a venture? Or do you think something like that would be impossible?
thanks, and sorry if I'm being too much of a fan boy.

Does Bob Bradley actually think he's building a 2010 squad by trumping out dinasours like Eddie Lewis when we're up by 3 goals? Surely it's better to use that chance to bleed younger talent.

wow, i almost feel bad adding to the rapidly growing stack of questions here. but i'll ask anyway!

in retrospect, how close was the deal with Veron to getting done? did it really crumble at the last second, as it seemed to, or was the story blown out of proportion a bit by some of the other news sources out there? does the front office regret the fact that he didn't sign, or are they more or less satisfied with having signed gallardo instead?
