Matchnight: DCU at Saprissa
DCU at Saprissa, 10 p.m. Fox Soccer Channel.
No chance, right?
Saprissa is missing a few players on Costa Rican national team duty, but in the aftermath of the Marathon-Cruz Azul draw, the Purple Monster has the opportunity to move into first place with a victory. So don't expect them to take it easy on undermanned DCU.
DCU LINEUP: Wells; Thompson, Martinez, Janicki, Zaher; Kirk, Vide, Carroll, Miller; Dyachenko, Doe. Subs: Thorpe, Cordeiro, Burch, McTavish, Khumalo.
It's a 4-4-2, though Dyachenko will likely drop into midfield regularly.
You've come to the right place for pregame, in-game and postgame discussion.

Not only are we playing mostly reserves, but Dyachenko seals the deal.

DCU is finished, and while I understand the team's decision to bag the Champions League, that doesn't mean I have to watch it. Support MLS, new stadiums, etc. and watch RSL-NYRB tonight!

Well, I couldn't decide whether to watch NJ v RSL or DC v Saprissa. That lineup makes the decision easy.
I haven't missed a United game in years but I honestly had no idea there was a guy named Miller on the team.
Kudos to Soehn for punting this competition. That must have been a tough decision.

That has to be the most pathetic starting midfield DCU has ever trotted out. Can someone tell me who Ryan Miller is?

Also, loving the wide pitch and the surface looks pretty nice. Can't really get a feel for the atmosphere as far as I can tell.

Dyachenko taunts the Saprissa fans? Is he on drugs?

Are you kidding? I turned it off when it went 2-1.
KEEP HOPE ALIVE! From worst to first?!?
You know, if we could just eliminate the ridiculously soft goals we give up every game, we might be pretty good.

The lads did well tonight to get a result. They worked hard and although outplayed, the crap field and all they made me proud. Good for the youngsters confidence.

Change my mind on the Saprissa second. Upon further review, the goal stands...
Hardly a pretty effort, but an effort none the less.
Hard to look good on that pitch with purple shirted Weebles wobblin' all over it...

Lucky to get away with the point. But credit this squad for doing what the others haven't in CCL play.

SCREW SAPRISSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
United Should have won this match.

United playing with all reserves except for VIDE and MArtinez against 11 flopping monkeys (and you thought ruiz was bad) plus a ref that seems to be getting some rear end love for costa ricans and a hotile crowd. WHOA who what have thought that.
DID I MENTION TO ANYONE HOW HORRIBLE it is to play against mexicans, and central americans. I hate to generalize but they are worst divers, sportmanship ---- ever.
Another day passes and another day that shows how my latin brothers are plain and simple MAricons.

Was he gesturing towards where the Barra Brava fans were sitting? I know a fairly sizable (for a weeknight international away game) group flew down there.

Rod can't win no matter what he does.
Ya'll are going to hate it when he's decked out in Rave Green slamming goals past Crayton next year because United has no real center full backs. I'll be bummed too.
Everyone's going to be like," dude... we never should have gotten rid of Dychenko... or Gomez ....dude, where's Kovalenko? Dude where's Moose?

Saprissa shoulda won this game 3-2, but I'll take the result nonetheless.
Now if everybody else in DCU's group could just lose all their remaining games while DCU somehow manages to win out, there might be a chance. An infinitesimally small one, but a chance nonetheless.

Sarah Palin effect. Expect the worst from a pathetic looking outfit, and when they don't totally blow it—heck, they even scrapped a point out of the game—they don't look so bad. This team is still poor. What a crap season.

They were scrappy, but they did it. They actually scored some goals and played a little defense, which was nice to see!
Now on to Houston... Great!

The boys played to their ability and fought for every 50-50 ball with that extra effort to get there before the other guy. Even off the ball movement was much better than what I've seen from the first teamers in a long time. DC Utd played more direct than trying to string together 10 passes in their own side of the field and you saw how effective this was. Also saw the hunger out there from these reserves & that made a difference for them to get the equalizer. Wells, seems he doesn't know how to use his size and presence back there to intimidate the opposing team. Even a small guy like Jon Busch plays more fierce than Wells.

Wow, I figured Cordeiro, Burch, McTavish, Khumalo would all start....
Well, finally get to see Martinez at CB again.
