Thanks Steve.
I hope Quaranta wins the comeback award, any positive feedback for the work he's put in on and off the field will hopefully strengthen his resolve to keep doing the right thing for himself, his family and hopefully for us United fans, his club.
You got my vote Tino!

As a Galaxy fan, I've been watching Sean Franklin do a great job of trying to hold the back line by himself while playing out of position (he is a natural right back, not center back). He probably wont win because he played on a team that let in the most goals, but he was the only dependable part of our defense. He played a lot more minutes than Dube and contributed a lot more to the team, IMO.

You've called it. No arguement with any of your choices. No really outstanding rookie so Dube is OK. Thanks for great coverage over the year.

VOTE FOR TINO!!!

Zach Wells for 2009 Comeback Player of the Year!!!

I agree with you on every pick but I say Soumare is the defender of the year. Cooper as comeback player wouldn't be a bad choice either, but I've got to go with Tino

Haha. Real Madrid lost to Real Union Irun 3-2.

I'd take Franklin as rookie.

Fair Play (Nov. 4)
Chris Rolfe, Chicago Fire

Comeback (Nov. 22)
Santino Quaranta, D.C. United*

Defender (Nov. 6)
Chad Marshall, Columbus Crew
(note: I actually would have chosen Conde, the leader of the Fire defense)

Rookie (Nov. 13)
Geoff Cameron, Houston Dynamo

Coach (Nov. 11)
Sigi Schmid, Columbus Crew
(note: Yallop's team, based on tiebreakers, finished dead last. He shouldn't be anywhere near this list)

Most Valuable Player (Nov. 20)
Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Columbus Crew
(note: Blanco?! Players more deserving than the Hunchback of Azteca, in no particular order: Ralston, Jaime Moreno, Angel, Conrad, Ching, Cooper, Morales, and even Huckerby, who only had half a season)

Newcomer (Nov. 11)
Darren Huckerby, San Jose Earthquakes

(though I think Kinnear did one helluva job bringing the Dynamo through not only the MLS schedule, but through three additional tournaments during the season, and still ended up at the top of his table.)

Most Valuable Player (Nov. 20)
Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Columbus Crew*

Newcomer (Nov. 11)
Darren Huckerby, San Jose Earthquakes*

(In other words, it's going to be a Massive gold-and-black haul at the awards ceremonies this season.)

Voting is under way also for the Sierra Mist Goal of the Year. DCU by a significant margin has more candidate goals than any other team (nine out of 35 total choices -- Columbus and Salt Lake have four each).

Don't suppose you could go back to -- and stick with -- the Chief Clancy Wiggum moniker, could ya?

Posted by: joedoc1 | October 30, 2008 2:23 PM

That would take setting up another email account and registering again with The Post under Chief Clancy Wiggum.

If that's what the public wants though.....

I didn't recognize Blanco without the diving.

Is Matt Reis wearing a cervical collar or is that a scarf?

Posted by: I-270Exit1 | October 30, 2008 9:36 PM | Report abuse

when reis is wearing that scarf thing he looks like darth vader in that scene where he's dying and they take off his helmet.

i cannot believe that i watched every minute of that awful game.

Wow. Matt Reis looks like Uncle Fester on the Addams Family with that collar. He's a night early.

Blanco for MVP? He won't even make the top 10 list of possible MVPs for his own team.

Best coaching job that went totally unrecognized: Preki.

No pick for Goal of the Year?

Gallardo's full volley vs RSL?

Posted by: DadRyan | October 31, 2008 12:37 AM | Report abuse

Out of curiosity, why isn't the MVP the last announcement for the awards season?
