For anyone with access to ESPN 360, they're apparently showing Derby-Forest on Sunday morning (8am). Always a good atmosphere for those heated rivals.

Setanta on the FIOS digital package seems to have been a limited time thing. I no longer get it. Anyone else lose it?

Posted by: I-270Exit1 | October 31, 2008 4:12 PM | Report abuse

That's a shame 270 - still listed on the FIOS and Setanta sites as an option though...

Apologies if it's already been seen, but Remi Mareval of Nantes might top David Bentley for goal of the day.

Section117 - Thanks for the link to the Mareval goal!

I-270Exit1 - the Setanta free preview period just ended on 10/26: http://www.setantaus.com/en/NA/How-to-subscribe/Verizon-FiOS/ (I was glad to catch PSG-OM on the last day)

My two cents on Setanta is they need to drop their price a lot. I'm not interested in $13/month. $5/month I'm in. But maybe the numbers don't work for them at that price - who knows...

The Bulls and Houston are on at 4 PM.

Posted by: VirginiaFan | October 31, 2008 9:33 PM | Report abuse

MURS???? Anyone? RnR HOtel!

Posted by: DadRyan | October 31, 2008 11:44 PM | Report abuse

Looking at the price tag to see the US ladies in Richmond, it's kind of amazing to think back at how so many fan boys cried about the prices to see the men TACKLE Cuba @ RFK...

That Mareval goal should be on every training video on how to strike a ball. Trying to teach a kid to land on his kicking foot like that is like pulling teeth sometimes.

Good thing the net was there. That shot might have hurt somebody behind the goal.

Hope Solo would hav-

Oh, forget it.

That would be sweet, but I already have plans dude.

Goff's mention of the USWNT got me wondering how our old friend Greg Ryan was doing up in Ann Arbor. Here is the answer:

The inaugural distaff U17 world champtionship is underway in New Zealand. The USA squad is in a bit of a hole after losing to Japan in its first match, but should get by Paraguay tonight (tomorrow where they are). No TV that I know of, but the US Soccer site says they will offer a matchtracker.

Posted by: universityandpark | November 1, 2008 11:30 AM | Report abuse

Well...Dempsey got on in the 88th minute...big whoop. The Rangers are ahead 5 to 0 at Half so maybe Beaz and Maurice could get some action?

The NYRB - Hou game doesn't seem to be on any tv. Anyone got a link?

Posted by: GoUnited | November 1, 2008 3:36 PM | Report abuse

I thought the first two Chelsea goals were offside. The other three weren't. No such controversy on Sunderland's goals because they hadn't any.

RE: Greg Ryan. I guess the Big 10 figured out the long ball.

RE: Setanta. Thanks for the info. I'm too cheap to fork over another $13/month to the nerdy looking guy.

Jozy Altdore scores fifteen seconds after coming into the Villareal match.

This is a little late, but Rojadirecta.com looks to have links to all the MLS games today.

Sweet goals by Davy Arnaud (KC) and Yura Movsisyan (RSL)

Posted by: Pedalada | November 1, 2008 9:23 PM | Report abuse

Wow, the Crew on the man advantage gets a goal in stoppage time to (presumably) head back to Columbus, though KC has a free kick just outside the Columbus box.

Posted by: Section117 | November 1, 2008 9:58 PM | Report abuse

Cox Communications showed NY vs Houston as part of the MLS Direct Kick. It was on Channel 659. They also showed KC vs Columbus.

Posted by: VirginiaFan | November 1, 2008 10:17 PM | Report abuse

SWEET goal by Mosivissiannnn or whatever in the Real Salt Lake match . . .

Posted by: delantero | November 1, 2008 10:27 PM | Report abuse

The senior USWNT got by South Korea in Richmond by a score of 3-1; no surprise there. The U17 squad got by Paraguay in Kiwiland by an identical score; no surprise there, either. Frederick's Julia Roberts, whom someone mentioned in an earlier thread, was on the bench but did not see action.

So much soccer today

@I-270 -- I agree that Chelsea's first 2 goals shouldn't have counted. On the other hand, Sunderland didn't show, and has little to complain about.

How about Harry's Hotspur? Hard to believe a new coach could make such a difference, but there's something going on there. Who can we bring to Washington?

Stoke's Rory Delap?? Has anyone ever had 2 assists on throw-ins in the same game??? This guy is like a human missile launcher. Stoke are more dangerous with throw-ins than with corner kicks, or even frees.

Speaking of frees -- when was the last time anyone saw a free kick taken from just outside the six?

Wonderful goal at RSL -- showed so much talent on the one play that I wonder where it was hiding for the first 90 minutes. Typically dull, plodding MLS affair, but with a brilliant flourish at the end. RSL might be the one underdog to pull off an upset in this round, but I still like Chivas' chances.

Players of the day though were Hoffenheim's deadly duo -- Vedad Ibišević (how did the USSF let this guy slip away?) and "Edu" Obasi.

Speaking of tough pronunciations -- I admire FSC's bringing in a gal to narrate some highlights, but she needs to make an effort on pronunciations. It's Oh-BAH-see, not OH-buh-see. And Allianz Arena is not pronounced like the English word "Alliance".

And Jozy scored? In a La Liga game? I just want to remind ya'll that I have been worshipping at the altar of Altidore since he first came on as a sub for the Red Bulls. He will be a great one. He's got the same kind of cool as Obama....

In NCAA men's action, GU, GMU, and GWU all won their games against rather unimposing opponents. Wake Forest beat North Carolina, 4-2. Michigan beat Ohio State, 4-2. OSU went up against Wake Forest in the champtionship game a year ago, but with a record of 9-6-2 so far this year, their future is uncertain.

Posted by: universityandpark | November 1, 2008 10:58 PM | Report abuse

Correction: Michigan beat Ohio State, 1-0.

RSL - Chivas was an absolutely amazing game. Nonstop action and RSL deserved to win with a great goal. Movsisyan was amazing all game and finally got rewarded.

KC - CLB was good as well

Dadryan, Goff, music lovers, can you really talk music without Jimi?!

RE: free kick outside the 6. I don't remember the last time I saw it, but the first time was during one of my high school JV games. Our entire team was in the wall on the goal line.

RE; Hendrix. Sure, we can talk about him. As long as I can say that lighting your guitar on fire may please the crowd, but it doesn't make you a great guitar player. But Red House is fantastic.

Well it is sunday morning and Americans back to their bench warming ways - except of course the goalies and back line! Bradley seems to have lost his starting spot....but, at least he gets to dress!

Clearly, we need one of those rich, footy inclined Yanks to step up to the plate -- buy a team in a top foreign league, and stick in some Yanks in the starting lineup.

No doubt about it Delantero! Hendrix is it. He did plenty besides burning guitars though. Someone has got to get a picture of Jimi in a DCU jersey before the Sounders jersey comes out...
speaking of musicians from Seattle:

This sickest thing about this video is that they really filmed it on Broadway. That Taco Bell used to get really messy late at night...
