Reading the transcript from Saputo's speech is really a kick in the groin. Objectively, Montreal was easily the best situation for Major League Soccer, and everything he said in his speech outlined how Montreal is still overall in a better position than almost every MLS team.

Montreal had everything you can ask for: a strong fan base, a soccer-specific stadium, experienced owners, strong backing, a natural rivalry that could have been the League's best from the first year, and, as he mentioned, an already strong team that wouldn't dilute the MLS talent pool when they joined the league.

Nice video Steve. Thanks for the heads up on CL kick offs in the last thread as well. I'm hoping to find a stream for that early match.

OWNTF thanks for the heads up on the match in Chapel Hill. Looking forward to the days when my daughter is a bit older and I can suggest such events as *to do* when visiting grandma. It does seem like there is always some soccer going on when we're down there:-)

Nice goals. Thanks, Goff. Thought I'd also marvel at the technical presentation. Although the live shots are taken from too great a height to get a good view, I was impressed with the graphics. Almost instantly, they pop-up a graphic detailing the last time those two players scored. Given the amazing skills they display with the goals, it's surprising that whole years have gone by without either of them scoring any goals

Strong fanbase?

Montreal?

Really? I'd say they have decent support, but that's due to the tickets being either free or less than $10 for the vast majority of their attendees.

Saputo has routinely shown his distaste for the single-entity structure, and we all knew he'd never pony up the $40million entry fee.

If MLS never puts a franchise in Montreal, it'll be too soon.

Portland is the best bid of the bunch, including the dropped bids from Montreal and NYC.

I flipped the Boca game on after the MLS cup. Nice of the comentator to acknowledge Schelotto and the Crew for winning the cup to all the Boca fans, that speak english at least. I believe he said of Schelotto, "all he does is win championships", he's got a point.

Very good, long, story on McBride in the Chicago Tribune. Nothing earth shattering, but a nice story...

Actually, I thought this was a great story. When the league started, and before I moved to DC to join the dark side, McBride was by far my favorite player in MLS. I grew up outside of Cleveland, so Columbus was a natural team to follow. That, and McBride is awesome. Reading this story was a great trip down memory lane of the journey we have taken so far, both as fans and players, since 1996.

Is your posting title also the name of the condo where Jerry Seinfeld's Dad was impeached as President of the Home Owner's Association?
