Thanks for mentioning our boy Torres playing in the Club World Cup. Missed the game but it sounded fantastic.

What's up with Convey? We could use a left wing player back home . .

Posted by: delantero | December 15, 2008 9:35 AM | Report abuse

Convey is injury prone..thats the last thing we need!
Good for torres saw the game, fast paced futbol!

Adu's lack of play is baffling. Monaco was losing, so what does the coach do? Sub a defender for another defender.

I'm I in a time warp? ;-) Convey is pretty much done on the international/top league level. Shame - since he's only 25 - and I always thought he was a good midfielder. Philly 2010?

I like the time for Altidore and Dempsey. Very encouraging.

Goff,

Out of curiousity how do you feel about Adu's situation over at Monaco?

Puma is signing to pay $10 million to sponsor WP . . . and since they also sponsor Marta, that would seem to increase the odds of getting her to the US

Adidas sponsors MLS and Puma sponsors WPS. Sibling rivalry?

Watching the Pachuca-Al Ahly. I guess Pachuca will turn things around in the second half, but Al Ahly's second goal was wondrous. Shows you what a team can do when they have a player of enormous skill. Aboutrika caught up to a long ball over his head and took it in stride, controlling it on his ankle -- almost totally deadening it, but not so much as to cause him to break stride. The he went down the side and served a nice cross to Barakat who, made the final pass to Flavio, who didn't miss (a lot of MLSers might have missed).

For Goff, here's a template you can use for future Americans Abroad posts:

Very encouraging signs for Altidore.

Torres looked very good. hope he sees more time on the national team.

Bocanegra plays left back in France. I would think that when DeMerit is healthy we should play both on the back line. DeMerit to me has always been good enough to be in the starting eleven.

Convey and Eddie Johnson should just back up and come home. Face it, neither should be in the US national fold. Their both just terrible now. (Beasley in about three months Im gonna put you in this group too)

Posted by: grubbsbl | December 15, 2008 4:39 PM | Report abuse

This really is going to be a big problem for the US side, if so many o four players aren't getting playing time.

Seriously, Beasley and Edu need to get out of Rangers. The SPL isn't any better than MLS anyway.

Posted by: alecw81 | December 15, 2008 6:24 PM | Report abuse

The Rangers announced this week that they are downsizing the squad in January so it will be interesting to see if Beas goes. The manager did make reference to keeping young talent so gotta believe that Edu is in his plans.

The Texas Rangers? Or The Queens Park Rangers? Or Rangers? (That would traditionally be The Glasgow Rangers to the uninitiated).

Thx,

Jay!

Smiley!
