DCU Scheduling Change, Kirk Update

MLS has not even released the complete regular season league schedule yet, and already there has been a change to D.C. United's previously announced home opener on March 28 at RFK Stadium: The opponent will be the Chicago Fire, not the San Jose Earthquakes. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.

The league is planning to unveil the full calendar sometime next week.

As for DCU's preseason plans, the "to-be-determined" gap in the schedule is tentatively set to be a trip to Puerto Rico Feb. 18-25 for training and perhaps a friendly against an undetermined opponent. Final details are being worked out and, barring complications, an official announcement will probably be made soon.

On a roster note, midfielder Quavas Kirk, who was not invited back for training camp, is expected to begin a trial with the Seattle Sounders.

Oh I want to say someting to do with ESPN. It's DCU home opener and putting Fire as opp would draw nice presentation for espn's hunger.

Nope. ESPN2 has college hockey until 8 and the DC game starts at 7:30. Maybe FSC, but not ESPN2.

ESPN is already showing a WCQ that night (We play at El Sal) so they won't do MLS at the same time.

Is Pat Carroll still with DC United? In your column here you said he was one of four let go. In the newspaper he was not mentioned. Is he still with the team?

All Carrolls (Brian, Jeff, Pat) are gone now. DCU with no Carrolls??!!

Insert usual comment here about NOT PLAYING ON INTERNATIONAL FIXTURE DATES. Bush league.

Glad to hear about Kirk -- he's a nice guy and one hell of a dresser. ;)

I hope Thompson (he and Kirk were actually roommates here in DC), P. Carroll, and Cordeiro also find teams to join soon.

Chicago v DCU? Invite the new pres for the opening kickoff.

Posted by: Reignking | January 23, 2009 3:18 PM | Report abuse

The new pres is gonna be at some game this season, wouldn't you reckon? He's a soccer dad, plus he likes to get out in DC. Maybe Fenty could take him to one (joke).

Maybe an afternoon match he could take the girls to.

@ beach3 | January 23, 2009 1:45 PM Thanks. That's too bad.

We can only hope but I reckon Fenty would take them to Boring or Throwing ball games because of his hatrad towards DCU. What a shame.

Yeah, but it'll probably be Freedom instead of DCU. ;)

The Fire? A great way to start. I hope Gallardo is ready. Please leave your batteries at home. I don't if anyone would agree with me, but it's not even funny to joke about.

Saw the pic for DeRo..TFCs jersey has a Canada flag on its sleeve like the Sounders left sleeve with the American Flag...
so its official..we have flags on our sleeves??????

Would be nice if the flags were state flags..

KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(trashtalk) Oooh, I feel bad that DC will be getting a smackdown in their home opener, esp if the fantasy of Obama going to an MLS match comes true... not a great way to start the new season after a less than successful 2008. (/trashtalk)

The conflict with the WCQ is ridiculous.

"so its official..we have flags on our sleeves??????"

Time to dust off the old red-and-white, striped-sleeve, 3rd jersey. Oops, did I write "3rd jersey?"

Oh yes you did!
Heard the flags are going on the authentic jerseys this year.

Come on fischy, it is plenty fine to joke all I want about throwing what ever I want at Blanco. I'm only joking after all. We covered all this last summer. Steve Goff is the only man on earth who can censor me!

Ha, Ha! That said Blanco has no respect for the game, fair play, his own fans, or his fellow players. The sooner someone cripples him for good, and he gets on the plane and goes back to his homeland the better. I would so love to see long arms Benny put that ugly mofo on his face in the home opener. He'd deserve every drop of blood he spills.
Sorry. I hate that dude.

Gotta love American flags on a team where Americans on the field are in a minority.
