DCU Stadium News

D.C. United President Kevin Payne told the Insider today that the number of potential stadium sites in Prince George's County has been reduced from seven to "probably three." He declined to specify the locations, but said all are in "transit-oriented areas. Some are right at the Metro and some are near."

Payne also said the club plans to submit a contract on one of the sites in the coming days. That does not mean it will be the final location, just that the club will have control of the land and an option to build.

3? Can't be some at metro and some near. Would have to be 2 in one category, and one in the other...

It's so nice to read stadium updates that don't involve "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."

Thanks Steve.

True, Fischy, but he also said "probably three." It could be four. Who knows.

Thanks for keeping on them for details Steve!

Though you just ruined one of my questions for this afternoon's Payne chat.

As long as "near" means a less-than-10-minute walk, I'm okay with this.

Things just got worse for Adu:

Monaco president Jerome de Bontin will resign from his post and establish himself in the United States for family reasons, the club said Friday.

Kevin's doing a live chat at 4:00 thru the DCU website, feel free to ask him your questions there.

So, Monaco's team president is fleeing to the US -- I'm guessing there's no extradition treaty -- but Freddy hasn't been playing there anyway. How is that bad news for Freddy?

Goff - Aleksei Smertin's agent is being quoted in several Russian media sources as saying that they're talking with an MLS club. Any idea which one?

fischy: De Bontin is the one that brought him in. The -only- proponent that Freddy had is now gone.

@RK -- But, Freddy isn't playing there -- so, once again, maybe he needs to move on...
