From the Googlish: "At the end, Gallardo had an episode with a rival, who committed an infraction and resulted in the coupling reaction, but became larger."

A coupling reaction? Wouldn't a handshake suffice?

ha, ha.
Thanks for all the TV info big Steve.

PR/Marathon sounds sweet. Now that MLS has their full choral anthem this season, can we also get a choral anthem for this side of the planets Champions League? What beer would be the sponsor? Could Budweiser mini kegs be just around the corner? Or maybe a Coors Party Ball?

Posted by: DadRyan | February 26, 2009 10:36 AM | Report abuse

Gallardo had an altercation with a Red Bull player? He really is a DC player! lol...

Whats funnier are the comments from the River faithful asking themselves how in the world they lost to a "yanki" team. To them its a disgrace to lose to us since they are supposed to be head and shoulders above us in every way. Good for the Bulls! Good for MLS. The more we beat South American teams it will be nothing but positive for MLS. Yeah yeah, I know, these are the River reserves. Even the River reserve should be no push over.

Never been to a game at College Park. Looks like the distance from the Metro to the field isn't too far. Where are the bars in relation? Street names, and or names of bars that will be open early and not completely sucking would be helpful...Thanks.
Is CP any less Bike friendly than the district?

Posted by: DadRyan | February 26, 2009 10:55 AM | Report abuse

If they can't stand to lose to a "yanki" team, maybe they shouldn't be named after English words.

Real Maryland is still at the 'Plex? When do they move to their new home?

Posted by: universityandpark | February 26, 2009 10:58 AM | Report abuse

The Argentinian article says there were 7 cautions, one ejection?? Why no details or mention in the RBNY article?

Posted by: carmines757 | February 26, 2009 11:03 AM | Report abuse

Real Maryland friendly is at the soccerplex, full season is at high school stadium in rockville

Posted by: Steve Goff | February 26, 2009 11:09 AM | Report abuse

No they're not at Plex -- "All 2009 Regular Season Home Games will be played at Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD."

Turf, very busy with lines for all HS sports. Wide and long.

It's near a 2 mile walk from the station, Dadryan. But it's through a cute neighborhood past the bars and through campus.

Basically, come out of the station and go right. Up the escalator, head down the street that's on your left, straight ahead. Right on Dartmouth, left on Knox. Knox & Rte 1 are where the bars are. Hope you like college kids. If you don't, a bit north on Rte 1 will bring you to Town Hall on your right. Pool tables and cheap beer, concrete floors. Love the place.

Here's a rough map. You can cut through campus easily, but gmap pedometer doesn't like non-named roads. If you get lost just ask for Lot 1 or Ludwig Field.

Bars That Aren't Lame + College Park = Does Not Compute

Posted by: edgeonyou | February 26, 2009 11:20 AM | Report abuse

The Shuttle UM College Park Metro bus runs from the Metro to the Union in the center of campus. As far as bars, there's always Townhall.

And having games at the Richard Montgomery Stadium - brutal. If I went to any of their games I'd probably have flashbacks to that one cold morning so many years ago when I went to take my SATs.

Posted by: M__N | February 26, 2009 11:39 AM | Report abuse

Thanks for the info and map link Colm1. Also the tip on Town Hall is helpful, sounds more up my alley. Lot 1 is the tailgating spot I gather... Depending on if I make it, and who I can drag along we may just end up in the lot with a 12er and some sammies...
@edgeonyou: I think your equation could be used for most campus's across America, but I get it;-)

Isn't that only for students with ID? I was there for a lecture recently, and I had to take Metrobus from the Metrorail station.

Posted by: universityandpark | February 26, 2009 11:54 AM | Report abuse

The route from Metro looks totally bike friendly enough for my tastes, I'd be bringing my wheels on the train. Walking and short buses are for squares;-)

In an earlier thread, didn't someone mention that the university suits explicitly approve of tailgating only at pointyball events, and that you might be taking your chances @Ludwig?

I don't think tailgating is "allowed" but I've had a beer or two before a few games there. Be somewhat discreet.

No beer pong. No fireworks. No keg stands.

So far Guzan is doing a good job. *knock on wood*

Posted by: RedDevil1 | February 26, 2009 1:11 PM | Report abuse

The Rochester-Real Maryland game is, indeed, at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, not the SoccerPlex. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

Apologies for the confusion.

Posted by: Steve Goff | February 26, 2009 1:13 PM | Report abuse

Guzan has stuffed a pair of one-on-ones in the last 8 minutes, one squibbed but one legit.

Posted by: otm_shank | February 26, 2009 1:16 PM | Report abuse

@Goff -- is there info on ticket charges for these Rhinos exhibitions?

Posted by: fischy | February 26, 2009 1:17 PM | Report abuse

I'm sorry Guzan, I jinxed you.

That was a rocket of a shot though.

Posted by: RedDevil1 | February 26, 2009 1:18 PM | Report abuse

Expect more; Villa has to press forward + score while CSKA has been getting all the run.

Posted by: otm_shank | February 26, 2009 1:18 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, why did we do that. A squared up 18 yard rocket that passed through 3 defenders incl Guzan.

It is not well known that in some Argentine circles that Gallardo is known as "La Llorono" o "La Muneca Llorona".

So this is where I extend another invitation to support my Puerto Rico Islanders aka Orange Troop aka the little Caribbean engine that could.

Any of you MLS types that are looking for a USL team South to support--bienvenidos.

General Clarke and the boys will have to work hard to live up to the sort of performance that our league rivals (enemies and "Papis" because until very recently they have owned us in the worst of ways)...

So here is another convocation. Now that some of you realize that we exist, you can make some room in your hearts when DCU isn't playing...

The Rhinos-Palace game is $10. And "no" we aren't close to a metro but if you can get to CP then maybe you can bum a ride with me...

Posted by: yankiboy | February 26, 2009 1:39 PM | Report abuse

don't know about admission charges for the rhinos exhibitions against usl teams in the area

you'll need to check with crystal palace usa and real maryland

i assume there's no charge for their game at umd

I haven't signed up for Rosetta Stone yet. Could you please translate (if it would make it past the censors)?

"Crybaby," "the crying doll."

With regard to tailgating, the other night I went to a concert by a rowdy Celtoid band (is there any other kind?) called the Tannahill Weavers at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, which is located at a famous freeway interchange. One of the musicians wondered out loud whether people would be going to their cars at intermission to have a few beers. Wouldn't it be funny if that were to become a Monday night tradition at that particular church?
