Well wasn't that nice of Friedel to give some playing time to Guzan?

Seems like our "not in the 18" and "didn't play" woes are largely confined to the forwards. That's progress, right?

I'm trying to look on the bright side of things today. It won't last.

Great to see Beasley in starting 11 and apparently it was "unexpected". From what I read, he did well. Let's hope the playing time continues!

Goodson looked decent in those highlights. Nice goal. Risky tackle. I enjoyed his very political answer about the PK call - I don't think they dock you $250 - $500 dollars for post game foot-in-mouth in Europe. Keep up the good work Goodson.

Anyone see Friedel's takedown of Torres? How bad was it? Did he have to do it?

Posted by: Reignking | March 23, 2009 9:25 AM | Report abuse

the red car was harsh. torres ran straight through the announcer said: "you can't expect friedel to become invsible"

I think from the referees angle it appeared that Friedel leaned himself into Torres and tripped him up. Most of the time I think a GK gets away with a play like that. Torres was going around him and it did seem to me that Brad ever so subtly did lean back to block him. And if you call that foul the send off is pretty much automatic.

Hey Goff, Grella did play this weekend. He played the last 20 minutes when he replaced Liam Dickinson.

Clint Dempsey in Fulham's 2-0 WHAT over WHOM?!??!!? That had to feel good for Fulham!

Tracy played well midweek in the UEFA Cup versus City. It was good to see an American in a European match even if it was the NIT, ah I mean the UEFA Cup.

Just in: Friedel's red card has just been rescinded by the FA. So some very slight good news for the Villa.

Posted by: Kev29 | March 23, 2009 11:33 AM | Report abuse

Sorry guys - spoke a bit too soon. Villa are still in process of appeal. I must have mis-heard the Talksport report.

Posted by: Kev29 | March 23, 2009 12:05 PM | Report abuse

what the hell has happened to Villa? they are having a meltdown of the highest order over there. that 2-goal letdown against Stoke was bad enough, but not even showing up for a game as important as yesterday's is just embarrassing. and it's just not the same if i don't get to see Martin O'Neill doing his calisthenics after each goal.

Is Charlie Davies team not in season? I have not seen a report on him since the January Men's National Team Camp.

A bad call against Friedel, huh? I had turned it off at halftime. So, how did Maruffo officiate in Liverpool, too -- and still get to LA in time to screw up more calls?

Allsvenskan plays a summer season akin to MLS. Opening match is 4/4. FYI, the team Davies plays for, Hammarby, is owned by AEG.
