United's Roster and Schedule
*The Insider has learned that D.C. United rookie midfielder Brandon Barklage (Saint Louis University) has agreed to a developmental contract. He joins rookie defender Rodney Wallace (Generation Adidas) and second-year defender Ryan Miller. The final developmental slot will go to one of two goalkeepers: incumbent James Thorpe or rookie Milos Kocic.
*Here's a link to D.C. United's complete schedule with TV info. The only Comcast game not listed (at least at the moment) is home against Colorado on July 18.

Mediate - out
One (or both) of Kocic or Thorpe - out
Dom - should catch on with a USL club, he has good pro experience and can play in many positions.
Kocic - apparently has a Swedish option, Thorpe - I have no real opinion about - except he seems like a nice guy and definitely improved during last season, shame we have to dump him if Kocic says yes.

It sucks to see Mediate go, but in my head I know it makes sense. He's a hard worker, fit, mentally tough (coming back from 2 difficult injuries) and won't lose you too many games, but you can get that at a developmental price tag with Barklage. If he wants to pursue soccer, a USL-1 team will be very pleased with him.

Tough to see Dom go especially after he came back from that leg break Th(Ugo) Ihemelu gave him and then the concussion.
Lots of great years at Ludwig and RFK. All the best.

Absolutely. Mediate sacrificed a lot, health-wise, for DC United.
I'm not surprised that he might be the odd man out on the decreased roster, but is there official word he's been cut or are folks just crossing him off by process of elimination?

I hope Mediate goes to USL-1. He fits there very well and likely can earn more than he would sitting on the fringes of DCU's roster.

So what is out projected starting lineup looking like?
Posted by: nyjer1 | March 3, 2009 8:28 PM | Report abuse
Projected starting lineup is pretty simple:
Crayton
Namoff - Jakovic - McTavish/Janicki - Burch
Quaranta - Simms - Gomez - Fred
Moreno - Emilio

Chest, I know in my head you are right, Domenic really laid it on the line for the sport and this team. We saw him a couple of weeks ago, he noticed the DC United sitcker on our car, and told us "that's my team, come watch us play this year!"
This is a bittersweet moment if he really is out. I hope he catches on elsewhere and does well in the future.

Maybe he can start swinging the clubs with Rocco?
Good luck Dom. Hope leaving you out doesn't haunt us later.

So if Barklage is in, who's out?
(I'm F5'ing everywhere trying to find this, to no avail...)
