Olsen's Absence
Greetings from RFK.....
*Ben Olsen, on the decision not to travel to Salt Lake City for last Saturday's match.....
Coach Tom Soehn late last week "pulled me in the office and thought it would be smart to keep me off."
Did your ankle feel any differently last week than previous weeks?
"It has gradually been getting more sore. Obviously now it is easy to look at it and say, 'Ah, it wasn't a good move.' But at the time Tommy had my best interests."
Were you surprised?
"I was prepared to go, for sure, but he has to make tough decisions and evaluate everybody. I have good days and bad days, and with a short week [a game this Friday] and with the altitude and the travel, I think he was emphasizing having me 100 percent for Friday."

*Defender Greg Janicki (post-concussion syndrome) and goalkeeper Josh Wicks (hip flexor strain) have resumed training and are officially listed as probable for Friday's match.

I have no problem with Tommy's decision - he needs to rest Ben when it seems appropriate. A long flight, playing at some altitude against a team we always seem to get bad tackles out of seems like one of the smart times to do that.
Besides, we need him to crush Shirley Joseph this week, Ben and Beckerman are friends ;-)
My girlfriend said she understood not playing him, but wished he could have been on the bench to smack some complacency out of the other guys in the second half :)

not too worried about the pain in ben's ankle. the weather has been real crazy here lately. i know my ankles have been in a lot of pain all week because of the weather so im assuming that's what was happening to his.

Apologies if this has been posted before. Here's a link to Benny's chat with Soccernet, in which he mentions not being able to watch soccer stars, in his youth, on FSC. I'll bet they cut the chat short after that.
