The U.S, U-17s advanced. 4-2 win over Canada. Local lad (Silver Spring) Joseph Gyau added the last goal.

I'll be watching as much as I can on FSC and GolTV. The Fiorentina/Roma game will be classic.

Looking forward to the Columbus/Chicago match-up as well. I'll be rooting for both teams to lose somehow.

And of course Sunday I'll be grilling some brats and drinking some imported beer I paid way too much for but gives me a nice feeling in my tummy.

ESPN2 Game of the Weak:

That was a sorry game last night between KC and NY although I blame it mostly on the 2nd minute red card. The early foul definitely deserved a penalty kick but Michael Kennedy was too quick to stamp his authority all over the game in giving Carlos Johnson the red card. He did not look like the last defender on the replay.

After the early 1-0 lead and, with NY playing down a man, neither team had the ambition to really do much until the end. NY was content to reshuffle it's defense and keep the score within striking distance and KC wasn't able to muster much in spite of their extra player. After the sendoff, there was little attacking soccer til about 15 minutes were left when the Ubiparipovic sub (an attacking mid for a defender) signaled NY would try to get a result.

The crowd in the small baseball stadium looked lively. Too bad the part of the game between the 3rd minute and 75th minute was mostly just filler.

Joel, I agree with everything. And I think Johnson didn't even mean to foul the guy -- he was just trying to clear the ball and the player came in simultaneously.

Go outside and play.

fischy,

Thanks for the update on the U-17s. I wish the Concacaf matches had been carried by GolTV. Interesting to watch the South American tourney -- playing field is absolutely horrible.

The A-League doesn't come back until August, IIRC, so that Melboure-Adalaide is most likely Aussie Rules.
