Okay, so this seems to be the exception to the rule, but, why do so many south american fields seem to be in such rough shape? Is it altitude? Weather? I watched the Paulista championship at Corinthians, and even that had more bald spots than a George Costanza look-alike convention.

I noticed the same thing watching a CONMEBOL U-17 match. I think a lot of it has to do with the time of year - it's late fall in S. America, the fields are worn down and the grass is starting to go dormant. Plus, ITTET, I'd imagine a lot of clubs don't want to re-lay the whole pitch, just patch where they have to.
