Wildest Match Ever?!

In the Greek Cup final, AEK Athens took a 2-0 lead over nemesis Olympiakos but yielding two second-half goals. AEK went back ahead in the 89th minute, but Olympiakos drew even in added time.

Olympiakos struck in overtime but the goal-scorer received his second yellow card for excessive celebration. A teammate was later sent off for a harsh tackle and, with a two-man advantage, AEK tied it at 4-4. In penalty kicks, Olympiakos prevailed.....15-14 in 17 rounds! Even some of the PK goals were unbelievable. Goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis made a save and then converted the game-winner. Whew. I'm exhausted just writing all of that.

The first video is from regulation and overtime, the second video from PKs:

Geez. That sounds like a nail-biting, heart attack-inducing, hair-yanking kind of game. I'm not sure I would've been able to watch (were I a fan of Greek soccer) with my nerves intact.

I bet there were riots in the streets!

15-14 -- unheard of...

BTW Olympiakos tied it up -6- minutes into extra time...

@Reignking: "Guys, I know Kung Fu."

Come on. Everyone should get a medal! Thatz what you get for doing the PKS at least twice. The Goal Keepers deserve overtime.

Seriously, how ridiculous.

Why is it the Greek Cup and not a Grecian Urn?

About 8 bucks an hour.

I know I-270 meant to ask the timeless question.

Well it is certainly filled with ouzo...

Posted by: Reignking | May 4, 2009 2:20 PM | Report abuse

Ouzo? Is that a Grecian Formula?

Holy baklava, Batman!

Baklava is Turkish. You want to start a riot?

you didn't even mention the "fans" trying to burn down the stadium. That's why there was so much stoppage time.

And the TFC fans thought they were bad-a.

Wow, Greek Fire. Security must not check for fireworks too closely upon entrance. I wonder how strictly they enforce no cigarette smoking?

those flares are stupid, and dangerous.

I love that it's the goalie, who just made the save, that kicks in the winner.
