"MATT LAUER CAN $UCK IT!"

sigh, not gag. Just shows how pathetic Lauer is.

Exactly what one should expect from the Today Show. After all, it's not Meet the Press. I could have done without the lingering shots of the Armani ads by the way. Couldn't you have censored them, Goff?

On the other hand, it was a reasonably good interview

I just threw up in my mouth. Thanks Goff! GRRR

NBecksC has replaced BSPN.

So, are the Beckham lads playing youth soccer here? How are they doing, and how soon can we cap-tie them to the USA?

Not to turn this into a fashion-site but it's a pretty sharp suit. I'm guessing it looks better fitted to Becks.

B*tch and moan when the league doesn't get coverage, b*tch and moan when the league gets coverage.

Jeez, people, lighten up and enjoy it!

No wonder my friends all give me grief about loving this sport...

Good to see some publicity around the NY-LA game. Anyone know what it's expected to draw? I assume this midweek game will have attendance well below his last two visits of 66,000 and 46,000.

@VirginiaBlueBlood |

Actually I think Lauer is the one who gagged.

Also I heard that Man City is trying to acquire Sir Beckham (Sir not b/c he was knighted, but b/c he is a pompous jerk). I hope that MLS transfers him back to England for some fish and chips.

If anyone finds video of the exchange between Grant Wahl and Beckham during today's press conference, please post it.

Economic malaise will continue in this land until we as a Nation reject Matt Lauer and the Today show.

I mean, if we can't accomplish the little stuff....

And not one mention of the game? Jeez........

LANGdon Donovan, Matt?

There's a game?

Seriously, if you're asking questions about Bruno(FFS) halfway through the interview, you pretty much know the reason for the interview.

Morning shows are generally to be avoided. However, I can hardly complain that they did a puff piece on Beckham (and MLS was treated decently). Sure, it's the TV equivalent of reading People or UsWeekly, but that's what they do.

Posted by: Chest_Rockwell | July 15, 2009 3:17 PM | Report abuse

is there anyone Man City is *not* trying to get at this point? how many attacking players can they have on the field at once. they'll be damn entertaining to watch, but i'm not sure they can just buy their way to a Top 4 finish like that.

Posted by: dimesmakedollars | July 15, 2009 3:17 PM | Report abuse

for those pining for NBC to air the US/Mexico game next month, keep this interview in mind. also keep in mind that they refused to show a lot of Wimbledon live (including the epic Roddick/Murray match) because it would have pre-empted some of "Today". and how would life go on if we didn't get 4 hours of this tripe per day?

Posted by: dimesmakedollars | July 15, 2009 3:20 PM | Report abuse

Hey! I just got an offer from Man City!

I may turn it down though, I don't want to be too trendy....

Posted by: JkR- | July 15, 2009 3:30 PM | Report abuse

Whatever. He's committed to playing soccer in the U.S. alright. But only until he opts out of his contract at the end of this season and gets back to Serie A or the Premiership as fast as he possibly can.

We, as a nation, must keep our priorities straight -- a single-minded focus on defeating the real enemy: FOX & Friends.

Posted by: fischy | July 15, 2009 3:35 PM | Report abuse

Excellent, Fischy, a Bipartisan effort (?).

I've never seen that show, but if it's a morning, newsy-but-not-news show with insipid hosts, then I'm all for combining the legislation.

Matt Lauer needs to stop crossing his legs like that, thank god he had some socks on. I'm still a little torn up from sock-less Brittany Spears interview a few years ago...(shiver)

found a link to this totally not safe for work spoof of that interview...turn down the volume or put on some headphones...;-)

Szetela confirms interest in DCU and definite return to MLS.

Re: Szetela

Yes to midfield depth, yes to bringing up a technically gifted youngun under the tutelage of Bennie, Jaime and Gomez.

Posted by: me_ahogo | July 15, 2009 4:22 PM | Report abuse

Good stuff me_ahogo but,

No to a MF who won't put in the running for 90 mins, disappears, and soaks up excessive salary cap room.

Szetela has shown better in youth internationals than he did with Crew. Talent is nice, and he has some, but commitment is required in MLS in August in an afternoon match in Frisco. (Just an example).

Posted by: JkR- | July 15, 2009 4:37 PM | Report abuse

My only concern is what MLS had to offer Szetela. I assume that whichever team gets him has to fit that under their cap...? Or is he getting a Gen Adidas deal? I realize United has some room under their cap, but they may really need to retool after the season.

Posted by: fischy | July 15, 2009 4:37 PM | Report abuse

Beckham's a self-important poop with a plastic wife.

Booo.

Go back to Europe you jerk. And take Matt with you (and Couric, too, if possible).

Posted by: hacksaw | July 15, 2009 4:45 PM | Report abuse

@fishcy: we may agree on something after all!

@eldiablo: spot on. Well in.

LANGdon Donovan, Matt?

Posted by: RiverOtis | July 15, 2009 3:09 PM | Report abuse

I believe a more accurate quote would be "Langdon...Don...Donovan?"

For thos pointing out that we b and moan when MLS gets coverage, Matt Lauer's uninformed coverage is less than helpful. The one non-Beckham player mentioned came across as a backstabbing weasel who then groveled to Sir David. Cheeky Americans...
