Ausgezeichnet!

The Iceman cometh!!!

I know this is early in the season, but I'm really pulling for Cooper and Johnson. We need Ching and Casey off the roster, ASAP.

If we had two target forwards (Cooper and Jozy) who actually finished chances, and two speedsters, we could finally have a real supersub. (I still think Jozy and Davies should be starters, but wouldn't it be lovely to have Davies off the bench).

Full page ad on Sports D5 for the USOC. The headline is We Win Trophies and it's a letter from Payne urging fans to attend the match on Sept 2, with a slight slap of the upstart Sounders.

I like the ad. will it help get more butts in the seats? I doubt it - but I could be wrong.

notinthe18 returns!

Toooor für Cooper!!

The Erste highlight guys were almost excited as the Premire- i mean SkySports guys..

Obviously Cooper's reception is so far very good but 1860 was really desperate for anyone after last year's relegation scare. It will be interesting to see how he does over the course of the herbstsaison against some more solid 2. Bundesliga opposition as well as the second round Pokal tie with Hertha. Hopefully he will not pull a Heath Pearce on us..

DCU can only do so much with advertising nairbsod. I think getting butts in seats for the Open Cup final has a lot to do with "US" selling this game to our casual sport fan friends and family. I know it's really exciting that the Nationals have started to pull their heads out of their rears, but "We Win Trophies" speaks for itself.
After all the trash talk that erupted when United won it's bid to host, United fans owe it to the club to show up and bring as many people with them as possible.

For others like me who haven't seen the print version of the paper - a copy of the open letter is posted on DCU's website

I like it that a heavyweight Post columnist like Mike Wise is paying attention to soccer. But I didn't find anything new or revealing in that column. Then again, it was not written for me, you, or anyone who follows DC United. It was written for those who don't - maybe the DC gov't?

I've always loved when German stadium announcers do call-and-response for goalscorers. If you don't know what I mean, check around 1:00 into the video.

Announcer: "Kenny..."
Crowd: "COOPER!"
(repeat x3)

and then they do the scoreline as well (so long as the away team hasn't scored)

I saw a Gooch video last year where they did the same PA first name/last name thing, and that sounded amazing given his name.

Great strike by Cooper. No keeper in the world is going to save a shot with that perfect placement. Hopefully he continues to start for 1860.

I'm digging the call-and-response thing too. I wonder if that would catch on in some MLS stadiums. Not sure it would work here because RFK's PA system is never loud enough.

Seattle doesn't do it because you wouldn't be able to hear it over the marching band.

Sweet jeebus. Cooper scored with his head? He'll fool the Germans into thinking he's a target man.

Does Bryan Arguez still exist?

And what about Gabe Ferrari down in Serie B i think?

Casey had three goals on sat; he's at the top of the league scoring table in spite of missing a number of game's in July.

Understand if folks don't think he looks to be working that hard on Defense; but he's obviously in form and has a right to be on the US roster. Seems like there used to be a lot of folks commenting when out-of-form players were called in. Now folks are complaining about in form players being called it. Tough crowd.

Did you see him in South Africa? He's like Twellman. Fine for MLS, but clearly not cut out for the international game. No shame in it. Casey's just never going to be a real contributor at the international level. 14 appearances, little effort in either direction, 0 goals.
