When did Soccer Insider turn into Terps Insider?

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | August 20, 2009 6:55 PM | Report abuse

At approximately August 20, 2009 6:27 PM

You know you've arrived when you have cross-forum trolling. I figured he was talking about Men's soccer for a second until I realized they play more than 12 games.

Anyway, glad to see that Deuce is keeping up his hot streak.

Dempsey goal reference added. Terps football comment deleted.

Also of note in this match is that Andy Johnson injured his shoulder and will be out for 8 weeks.

this puts Eddie Johnson closer to the field. Let's see if he can take advantage this time.

FK Amkar Perm? Is that the name of a team or a new alt. rock band in Seattle?

Bigger question, where can I get a jersey?

They seem kind of scary. I looked at the match report linked above and they kept a Kalashnikov on the bench.

A not that great video of the goal is here:

Looks like a nice long distance strike.

Good news all around, seems to me. Hope Johnson sees more time.

I really hope Jozy has a good first game, his team looked really sloppy against Spurs.

I'm really trying to fathom the root of Dempsey's troubles on the national side. Honestly, I think we place far too much responsibility on Donovan and Dempsey to create literally everything.

Maybe it's just that lack of competition is keeping Dempsey on the field, and he's getting lazy. Or maybe it has to do with the fact that there are SO many players behind the ball in concacaf, and Bob refuses to start a central playmaker, that there isn't anything to do but dribble around and wait.

Anyone watching Soundrerers/Revs?
DCU shoulda gone after Alonso. You know he's going to be glory hunting coming into RFK in the Open Cup Final....

Posted by: DadRyan | August 20, 2009 10:25 PM | Report abuse

Wow. Montero Dives. Get's his PK. Ralston sees a yellow for dissent. Shalrie tells Montero he's a punk diver, and then Montero hits the crossbar and misses his PK! Incredible. Will the Sounders fans somehow place the blame on their missed PK on the ref who already blew the call on the penalty?

Mariner just got thrown out before the end of the half! You guys are missing something.

this game is hilarious.

Those NE coaches are a bunch of ridiculous whiners. It's great that something is finally being done about them.

I wouldn't call the PK a dive. He did get kicked. Now, whether or not it was an actual foul or a trifling infringement is the question. But the law says "kicks or attempts to kick" is a foul.

And the power of Disney is in full-force: Two mentions of the Manchester United-Wigan Athletic game this coming Saturday in the first half alone, plus a full-on commercial for the game during the half, plus another full-on commercial advertising the EPL as well as La Liga.

Watching Contacto Deportivo on Telefutura right now, they just showed Concachampions highlights of Toluca's visit to San Juan Jabloteh in T&T. Toluca wore a shirt very reminiscent of an early DC away jersey (but only 2 red horizontal stripes across the chest of the white shirt). Toluca managed to win 1-0 but SJJ forced some pretty good saves Cristante, Toluca's goalie. Toluca is the only team that managed to win on the road (with one result still pending from tonight's game in Honduras) in this 1st round of CCL games. And SJJ has lots of speedy players that will make them difficult to beat.

In other important news:

Today was Don King's birthday. And Usain Bolt is still really, really fast.

New England has more experience on artificial turf. That's why they won 1-0. I wouldn't let Montero take any more penalty kicks.

Interesting match for Toledo.

Nutty match in Seattle.

Posted by: DadRyan | August 21, 2009 12:08 AM | Report abuse

Yeah, that was entertaining for all the wrong reasons. Loved Reis baiting Montero and Nicol's reaction to the box next to him at the end of the match.

Did anyone else catch the Champion's League promo on Fox tonight during the football (I mean American football) game tonight. It's looking like soccer is going mainstream in the U.S.

Posted by: Lucius2 | August 21, 2009 12:10 AM | Report abuse

Yeah, Nichol's reaction to the box next to him was pretty unrestrained. Loved it. Toledo the ref sucked. He was a big part of this game, and that is not good for a ref.

Does cox still offer fox? i havent watched fox since the 90s? i forgot all about that channel

Posted by: Norteno4life | August 21, 2009 12:51 AM | Report abuse

I saw that too, Lucius2. I wasn't sure I was on the right channel since Fox messed up a few commercial breaks and had some problems with the LA broadcast. That game was boring.
