With Harrisburg's 1-0 loss at Richmond in the USL-2 semifinals Saturday, City Islanders midfielder-forward Tiyi Shipalane appears free to join D.C. United on loan. He trained with the club several weeks ago and, from all indications, DCU was preparing to finalize a deal with Harrisburg. Perhaps more details Monday.
Watch Jozy Altidore's Premier League debut during Hull's 1-0 victory over Bolton on Saturday. Altidore assisted on the goal 28 seconds after taking the field and later almost scored. Skip ahead to the 3:30 mark for the Jozy highlights:
Hull City v Bolton Wanderers

Me thinks many EPL defenders will come to fear Jozy. Hull looks to now have a very solid attack.

It is hard to imagine that anyone ever made a more spectacular entrance to the EPL. Raising expectations perhaps, but that is OK with me. It means Jozy will get lots of action. Great to see how the Hull fans already were excited to see Jozy. This may be just the place. Almost Drogba-esque or Anelka-esque.
Back home, I am looking forward to seeing Shipilane. I figure he will add a dimension to the DCU attack which is sorely lacking now. Someone needs to open up the opposing defenses. Right now, it is to easy to deny United the space the team needs to create good scoring chances. Tiyi could be the right man for the job.

I think Jozy scored in the first minute of his La Liga debut, too. I would look, but I don't care that much.

Also a nice series of stops to save the game, by Boaz Myhill, who blew his chances of ever playing for the USA last year when he made his Wales debut.

Was the Hull City crowd chanting "USA" when Jozy entered?

The sky is bigger than the sun.
NJ 1: LA 0 Heather O'Reilly scored in the 17th.
Highlights, although you don't need to watch anything after the 1st minute.

Nice that he assisted on the goal but he also blew off three clear cut chances and could not put in the back of the net so did the other goal scorer.

The game completely changed when he came in. Bolton controlled the match until that change, and suddenly Hull took over. Not sure if that was just because of Altidore, but something definately happened.
Great assist; and he was in the position to take advantage of some chances. It's not like he came on and was lost or uninvolved. I thought it was a pretty impressive start for a kid, and Im really hopeful for him.
Seems like all the Adu-hype should have been directed toward Altidore. He seems to be the real deal.

I don't know whether anyone has previously noted that a Mary Washington varsity athlete collapsed during practice and died the other day:

I just saw that the story from Mary Washington got into Goff's story for today's ink-and-newsprint version of the Post.

The NCAA season is upon us, and two U17 veterans, Julia Roberts and Christine Nairn, cracked their respective starting 11s and faced off:

More specifically, Roberts and Nairn are two former U17 players from Maryland.

There were 35 shots in that game 9 of which were on goal. I guess both teams must just really suck because clearly there should have been at least 20 goals scored. Surely all of those shots had to be easy like Altidore's missed opportunity with the keeper coming out at him at full speed and him having to chip the keeper and missing by inches.

Anyone else trying to tune into Sounders/Dynamo this evening?

That was pretty cool. Not just the enthusiasm at Altidore's entrance - although that was nice. Not just the cute pass for the goal - nice as well. But most important, if you watched the whole clip, the entire tenor of the game changed when Jozy came in. Multiple opportunities in quick succession for Hull. And, man oh man, would it have been sweet if Jozy had made one of those.
Just a really, really cool sequence. Go Jozy!!!!

nice work by Jozy! Great assist and those chances were sooo close and not as easy as they looked. And he manhandled several guys. I look forward to watching Hull City this year...

great to see Jozy come in and play well, i got chills. i got into watching Hull last year and now this gives me even more reason to pull for them.

Ghillas should have finished 3 of those chances. I didnt see the game but based on the highlights Jozy should start with Ghillas up top. They look dangerous.

If I were onthe field with Drogba, Lampard, Ballack, and Anelka, my strategy would be to pass the ball to them. Fulham is like-minded.
