Good to see USA defenders getting playing time with their Euro clubs. We are going to need several of those guys to be in form for next summer's tournament.

Wonder when Jozy will see the field again, sadly after this weekend it might be a long while.

[He showed up late to the stadium and was kept out of the 18 - a fact which he shared via twitter. Manager Phil Brown was not pleased, and Jozy was fined for the tweet]

That kid has got some growing up to do...
He said he's shutting down his facebook page. Hopefully he steps away from the blackberry and gets focused.

So was Dempsey's shoulder really injured for US play?

He played another great game and actually created 2 other perfect goal scoring ops for his teamates who couldn't convert...and this was all at Manchester City.

Also...
Did Dempsey go off the field and hug EJ (guy in black shirt) after his goal or was that someone else?

Excuse my soccer IQ. Can someone explain to me:

"...in 18, didn't play in..."
"...not in 18 for..."
"...didn't play in..."

The last one is obvious but the first two?

Each team can dress 18 players (11 starters, 7 subs) for each game. Considering that one of the 7 is a backup GK, if you make the subs bench, you have a 50/50 shot of getting in the game at some point.

Making the 18 regularly is an indication that the manager considers the player as part of the "first team."

Southeastern,

For the Hull match, Dempsey played with a protective sleeve/harness under his jersey. It didn't appear that he had it on yesterday. He was clearly in pain when he hurt it against West Ham so I would have no reason to doubt his injury keeping him out of the last set of USMNT matches.

Yes, that was EJ who Dempsey ran to on the sideline. Nice to see him get off the bench, even if it was only for that exchange.
