Sunderland's Assist
Okay, so the videos of Sunderland's wacky goal against Liverpool are being blocked by the copyright gods, so I offer you the reaction of the Sky Sports "Soccer Saturday" studio announcers:

Could not have happened to a more deserving club. :)

Around these parts, the balloon is simply popped and/or taken off the field.

Losing to effing Sunderland?!?! My heart is breaking.

The best part about it is that it's a Liverpool balloon thrown by a Liverpool supporter. Well done.

Funny thing is that the ball was in the net at the beginning of the game. Reina had ample opportunity to take care of the ball before it became a distraction. Unless one of the field personnel returned the ball to the stands, and it got thrown out again, I can't see how Liverpool can have any complaint. It's their own (supporters) fault they lost at the Stadium of Blight.
Thx,
Jay!

The ball came off the defenders foot not the balloon.

Ha! Best thing was watching the keepers reacting to the balloon, trying to keep that from going in the goal.

So,somebody watches that programming? I have wondered. Seems like I'd rather watch a game -- any game -- than watch some clods prattle on about half a dozen games while they're happening.

Should that goal be allowed to stand?

Wow, one of the angles makes it looks like the defender kicks away the balloon before the ball gets to it, and the ball takes that odd bounce because of the defender's foot, not the balloon.

Was the boy inside the balloon when the ball struck it? Or was he hiding up in the stadium's attic?

The defenders toe hit the balloon while the ball was defected up into the net.

Maybe Balloon Boy from Colorado was actually inside this balloon.
I smell a reality TV show coming...

It has been confirmed that all of this is indeed a publicity stunt for Liverpool.
